Crafting - Known Bugs

A number of bugs existed with various recipes throughout the early game versions; and in some versions. Because of the variations in the different game versions we won't list all of the separate bugs, except for the more prominent ones.  As of version 1.10 most of these bugs appear to be fixed based on info in the ga_setrecipes.nss file and the crafting.2da files.

The following recipes have had bugs in some or all of the various versions.  Patching your game will not always fix these problems.  

  • Medalion of Thought recipe gives a 'Talisman of Pure Evil' instead.  Fixed with v1.03(840)
  • Armor of Arrow Deflection' recipe currently lists 'Spell Specialization: Abjuration' on the Armor enchanted. Still bugged thru v1.05.  Fixed with v1.10
  • Armor of Spell Resistance recipe is bugged, even at level 20 it says your Caster Level is too low. Fixed with v1.03(840).
  • Invulnerable Armor recipe doesn't actually do anything except steal your ingredients and allow you to rename your Weapon. Still bugged as of v1.12. 
  • Poison Weapon recipe doesn't actually do anything except steal your ingredients and allow you to rename your Weapon.  Fixed as of v1.10 
  • Luck weapon is still bugged thru v1.06. Still Bugged as of v1.12
  • Quick armor is still bugged thru v1.06.  Fixed as of v1.10.
  • Weapon of Speed recipe is bugged thru version 1.06. Fixed as v1.10
  • Flaming burst recipe is bugged.  Recipe works but produces the wrong effect.  Adds 1d10 physical damage not 1d10 fire damage on crits.
  • Morningstar mold recipe does not match crafting recipe.  Fixed in v1.10
     

OEI Crafting Bug Fixes:  Here is a sequential list of bug fixes for the OC and the dates they were implemented by OEI.

9/10/06 - fixed dragon blood, fire beetle belly
9/10/06 - fixes from Annie for recipes: RING_DIVINE_POWER_2, RING_WIZARDRY_2, SCABBARD_KEEN_EDGES
9/27/06 - added WarMace, silver bastard sword, and silver falchion
10/20/06 - modified weapon and armor Haste effect recipes - replaced w/ ability to cast haste 3x/day
11/9/06 - The charm and focus can be created using standard darkness or the warlock invocation darkness
11/10/06 - fixed Medallion of Thoughts, armor Arrow Deflection, weapon Poison fixed
11/13/06 -  fixed Invulnerable
7/17/07 - fixes for Acid trap recipes, morningstar recipes as well

In addition to the recipes bugs outlined above, there are a number of other issues with the crafting system as outlined below.

  • Enchanting Bows (and crossbows) are a well known problem in early versions of the game. While non-magical bows can be crafted easily enough, it is not possible to put a basic enchantment on them (i.e. you can not make a +3 duskwood bow). If you try you will get a crafting succeeded message but nothing about the bow will have changed.  This problem has been fixed in a subsequent patch and it is now possible to add base enchantments and additional enchantments to bows, and to apply elemental damage to ammunition as well.
     
  • It appears that the implementation of UMD is bugged with v1.03 and earlier versions as spells are successfully cast from scrolls even if the user fails the UMD check. In addition the effective caster level of spells cast from scrolls is NOT being properly implemented. People are reportedly using Grobnar to successfully cover all of the item creation.  Update:  With v1.04 thru v1.06, you can no longer use a scroll or wand to enchant items if the required caster level is greater than level 10.
     
  • The Brew Potion feat is partially bugged and does not function properly 100% of the time.  The following potions are created with incorrect effects: Blind Sight, Fireburst, Foundation of Stone, Heroism, Improved Mage Armor, Mirror Image, Rage and Shocking Grasp. This has been bugged upon release and remains bugged thru v1.06.
     
  • The Scribe Scroll feat is partially bugged as certain spells can not be scribed to scrolls.  This has been bugged upon release and remains bugged thru v1.06.
     
  • Falchions and kukris are still miscoded in the crafting.2da file.  Although they should be classified as martial weapons (3.5 edition rules), they are treated as exotic weapons for crafting purposes.
    • Fix:  Open the copy of the v1.10 crafting.2da file in notepad. (Kill wordwrap!)
    • Find lines 725 thru 730 (inclusive) and Lines 743 to 748 (inclusive) in crafting.2da. (code lines reference v1.10) 
    • Reduce the column 8 entry (level) in each line by 3.
    • save the edits and close the file
