Neverwinter Nights 2 v1.23.1765 Patch Released
Crafting Guide (OC)

Crafting Guide

Crafting GuideCrafting is, in our opinion, one of the best parts of the Neverwinter Nights 2 Official Campaign

Most people who use crafting do so in order to make custom magical armor and magical weapons for themselves and the NPC's. Crafting items and selling them is also a great way to generate cash to buy that one of a kind item that you saw for sale or to use the funds to help rebuild your keep.

It's possible to generate a lot of money (upwards of 750,000 gp) by crafting and selling items if you choose the right materials.

A mithral tower shield was worth over 10,000, an adamantium tower shield was worth about 8500 gp, and a duskwood bow was worth about 7200 gp.

What follows is a detailed guide for those of you who want to utilize the crafting process.

The guide that follows is based on game version v1.06 for the Original Campaign.  Mask of the Betrayer utilizes a slightly different system and some of the details in these sections are different in the expansion.  If you are starting MotB without having played the OC, we recommend that you review the sections on non-magical crafting in this guide first and then skip over to the crafting guide for the Mask of the Betrayer.

Crafting can actually be broken down into into several categories. The first four involve the crafting of non-magical items through the use of four basic crafting skills. The next two center around the creation of magical items through the use of the Craft Magical Arms and Armor feat and the Craft Wondrous Items feat.  The last three focus on the creation of Wands, Scrolls and Potions via the Craft Wand, Scribe Scroll and Brew Potion feats

Different types of crafting will require access to a wide array of equipment and materials. The four basic crafting skills require access to a smith's hammer, mortar and pestle, raw materials (such as metals, wooden planks or hides from various animals), various reagents, and possibly item molds.

The Craft Magical Arms and Armor and Craft Wondrous Items feats require access to a magicians workbench and a wide variety of arcane and divine spells, gems, essences and certain raw materials or pre-fabricated items. (Essences are key ingredients in the creation of magical items and we'll talk more about these in a later section).

The Craft Wand, Scribe Scroll and Brew Potion feats require a bone wand, empty scroll and empty potion bottle respectively. In addition, each one requires gold to cover the costs of creation.  No additional reagents are required, and access to any of the workbenches is not necessary.

All of the crafting that you do will require that you combine a number of different items or reagents in a specific combination to produce the desired item. These recipes can be found in the 27 tomes scattered throughout the game. You will also need access to either an alchemist's workbench or an blacksmith's workbench for basic crafting and a magicians workbench for creating magical items.

Tip: Carting all of this equipment around is both unnecessary and cumbersome. Buy the cheapest magical bag you can and stash all of your crafting gear in it and leave the bag in one of the crafting benches in the back of the Sunken Flagon. Just make sure to take the bag out right before a chapter change so it doesn't accidentally disappear on you.
