Magic Schools

magic schoolsWizards may specialize in a school of magic. A specialist loses access to one school but casts more spells per day. If you wish to have access to all schools, you must select the General school.

 

 

 

 

 

 


  General

This is not a school, but instead represents the wizard's desire to have an equal understanding of all spells, without focusing on a single school of magic.

Prohibited School: None


  Abjuration

Abjuration spells are typically protective in nature.  They can create or negate magical and physical barriers and abilities, and even banish creatures to another plane.  Spell Mantle, Globe of Invulnerability, Shield and Protection from arrows and Dispel Magic spells - including Breach and Banishment are a few of the spells found with this school.

Prohibited School: Conjuration


  Conjuration

Conjurations spells can create objects, summon creatures from other planes or manipulate various forms of energy. Summon Monster spells, Planar Binding  and Gate along with Mage Armor, Improved Mage Armor, Acid Fog and Vitriolic Sphere are available.

Prohibited School: Transmutation


  Divination

Divination spells allow one to see into the future, find hidden or concealed objectives and disrupt spells designed to deceive. See Invisibility, Trueseeing, Power Word spells, Assay Resistance, Feeblemind, Premonition, Detect Undead, Truestrike, Lore and Clairaudience/Clairvoyance are found within this school.

  Enchantment

Enchantment spells are used to influence or control the behavior of other creatures. Sleep, Paralysis, Charm, Domination, Confusion, and Heroism are examples of spells found within this school.

  Evocation

Evocation spells manipulate energy, effectively creating something from nothing.  Evocation spells can cause substantial amounts of damage and encompass most of the best offensive spells. The entire range of Bigby's spells, Issac's missile storms, fireball, lighnting bolt, chain lightning, cone of cold, sunburst, and prismatic spray are included in this school.

 Illusion

Illusion spells alter a creature's perception and fool it's senses.  They allow the caster to create false images, disguise things, and distort hearing or memory. Invisiblity, Displacement, Mirror Image, Weird, Phantasmal Killer, and the Shades spells are found within this school.

Prohibited School: Enchantment


 Necromancy

Necromancy spells allow the caster to manipulate the forces of life and death, often thru creating undead or by destroying life itself.  Necromantic spells tend to inflict negative damage or reduce abilities. Fear, Ray of Enfeeblement. Enervation, Finger of Death, Cloudkill, Wail of the Banshee and Create Undead are examples of spells found within this school.

Prohibited School: Divination


  Transmutation

Transmutation spells are used to alter the abilities of a creature or its environment. Haste, Bull's Strength, Stoneskin, Enlarge Person, Disintegrate, Burning Hands, and Mordenkainen's Sword are all found within this school.
