The sum of all three numbers, equels the first number. 5,1,3.
somehow reminds me of monkey island 2, dont ask me why hehe
This is a side quest in Act II. It takes place in blacklake in a noblemans house called "the collector". U must have neeska in party in order to get this quest. There is vault which opens with 2 keys and a 3 digit code. Threaten the collector upstairs with his painting (left of him on the wall) and he will give u the first key. Take the book from the 2 bookshelves behind. The one closest to the corner wall is a trap. The other has the book that hides the 3 digit code. The code is 5,1,3 thanks to lurch. The second key is located in the fireplase. Take from downstairs an empty botlle (located in the kitchen) and fill it with water.(drag n drop the botlle in the inventory screen a the vase filled with water next to wash bench) Then use the bottle in the fireplase.Take tha key...and happy loot.
Thanks for the post Kane. I'm sure there will be a lot of other players, with the same problem.

Can you explain how you got the 3 digit code. It is killing me to know.
I´m not sure if the way you solve this quest is important or if i found a little bug out there, but when i first used the keys and then entered the combination, the vault would not open and i could do nothing about it :(

hmm, this forums layout is ... different. might take some getting used to.
in answer to your question
the first line says that all three numbers = 9
(a+b+c=9)
the line says that says something about soing something with 6
(a+b=6)
the third line says that the first number is 5
(a=5)
(no i cant remember teh riddle of the top of my head, sorry)
the math is fairly simple
so we no that
a=5
b=6-a
c=9-(a+b)
a=5
a+b=6
5+b=6
b=1
a+b+c=9
5+1+c=9
c=3
or
a=5
b=6-5
c=9-6
so
a=5
b=1
c=3

you can choose which display mode you wanna use in this forum.

Really, you don't need to do a lot of math. The answers are in the riddle itself. Each question has a number in it. It's the number you need. The only trick, is that the numbers are backwards. If you take the numbers as you read them, they're 3-1-5. Just reverse them. Sometimes the harder you look, the less you see.
I am not gonna pretend I understand the whole riddle, only parts of it.
I took the first line. "Nine are we when taken are three." or something along those lines and interpreted as when you take (enter in) 3 numbers for the combination they add up to 9.
So we have 3 numbers and have reduced the possibilities to combinations that add up to 9.
Then I took the 3rd line. "None survive our first less five." Ok, I interpreted that one quite literally as we take our first number, take away 5 from it, and we get 0. Therefor our first number is 5.
I wasnt able to clearly firgure out the second line. But after the 1st and last line (and my thought process, no idea if im right) you have 5 possible combinations.
5-4-0 ; 5-0-4 ; 5-1-3 ; 5-3-1 ; 5-2-2
5-1-3 of course being the answer.
Thats how I got it in the end. Took me ages though.
I might have taken the riddle too seriously, but hey I got there in the end.
I have a problem with this quest. I did it before I did the first Neeshka v. Leldon quest (the one where you steal his coin), and now I can't complete either quest. Both are still in my journal, and I don't know what to do. Leldon is just standing in the Collector's vault, and it won't let me talk to him.
