Have a question... can Wizards face any other class in 1vs1 and win?
I mean - they have like a spell for anything. (I think at least) Major protection spells, huge ench. removals, empowered spells for offence... can cast 2 spells per round (if using quickend spell for the 1st one)...
So - what do you guys think?

It depends.

In a Mage vs Barbarian fight the mage has to get his defenses up quick if he doesnt want to end up creamed by the barbarians big bad axe! :D

Then again, it all depends on what kind of mage you're playing as.

it depends?

You can play any kind of wizard you want - cus you have large spell book
I'm just asking if there is a class that can overcome those wizard spells and win?

A high level Drow or Deep Gnome or Monk might resist the spells.

Spell casters are typically the most powerful in PvP since other classes rely on items to be effective. Cince equipment doesn't level up with your character unless you get some pretty decent stuff that will protect you from spells you won't have much chance against a fully buffed mage unless you were also a similar class.

It does also depend on the situation, a wizard standing around would be killed by an assassin without any trouble, fully buffed and there'd be no chance.

What levels are we talking about anyway? the lower the level the better the melee classes are (compared to the casters).

I'd have to say that Sorcerer, or possibly Cleric would be the best choice against a wizard. Since you can't counter spell in NWN2 you don't have to worry about a wizard blocking the sorcerer's limited choice of spells (so the wizard would run out of spells first) and a cleric can cast things like implosion and harm (assuming they can beat the spell resistance) and you'd kill them quickly.

Arcane Archer is another possible class since they could fire an Arrow of death at the wizard before any damaging spells are cast, others need to get close to do melee damage giving the wizard time to cast holding spells, death spells and seriously damaging magical/elemental spells.

Buffs don't last forever though so anyone planning to kill a wizard just has to wait for the right time to strike, or if you're fast enough you could charge them as a fighter type and hope you hit them (with knockdown or similar) before they hit you.

As can be noticed by the length of McPhearsoms post this is a complex question to answer. And indeed the sorcerer, cleric and monk are the classes that probably will be the most resistable against wizards.

You clearly do have a point in the fact that wizards and sorcerers even more are quite powerful in games like NWN2, in fact, it are this type of games that actually have one of the most capabilities in creating a powerful spellcaster, most of the other games dont give such a great opportunity.

As always you have to look at the disadvantages a spellcaster has. In PvP, when you are able to have a decent spell resistance (and since the OC doesnt really give you the need to have it), you just have to hit and break the wizards defense as much as possible. The spellcaster, the wizard, is out of defense and of spells after a while. If you, for example, can break the wizards Stoneskin, he is very easy to harm.

If the spellcaster is specialized in necromancy, dont forget to wear or protect your character against death spells. They are really very devastating and kill you very easily.

I have found that with an Adamantine weapon and some defence against death spells, Wizards and sorcerers go down quickly against a Fighter or Paladin. Take that Qara! Is that what Black Garius was sneering at when noting that I had not equipped some of my companions?

Wouldn't monks just pound any spellcaster into the ground, given the right equipment?

If you want your Wizard to stand up to melee, you HAVE to give her the best CON and DEX you can and still have the best INT. The other stats don't matter much - though CHA is handy.
And make sure your Wiz learns every single arcane spell scroll you find!

But, yeah, practically ANY class can beat a wizard provided you go about it the right way - and the right way depends entirely on your class. And it's handy to have a couple of tanks to soak up damage while you're doing it, LOL! :D

If YOU are one of the tanks, then take over your Rogue and get her to SNEAK up behind the wizard and emply her sneak attack. Especially if she has Weapon Finess and Two-Weapon Fighting.;)
