View Full Version : Monk's
I am thinking about going a new direction off my beaten path for character classes. I would like to try a monk.
Anyone that has played and enjoyed the monk class and could give me any tips or opinions about this class would be great!
Anyone that disliked the monk class, I'd like to hear your opinions as well.
TIA

if u multiclass a monk, do it with a fighter and get yourself 2wf feats,
lots of attacks and u can add damage by adding Weapon specialization feats ;)
also level your monk in groups of 4 to get a better bab...
and use kamas, unarmed sux :D

Well monks do alot of damage. Not sure about multi-classing them since they would loose alot of their abillities but if they were to multi-class with anything fighters would be the best choice.
Overall monks do a huge amount of damage but they have a severe lack of armor.
an unarmed monk, with no armor cept the cloth "<armor> of the <monk order> +#" IE: Robes of the Shining Hand +5, Gloves of the Hin Fist +1... and a few other monk items.. and really high DEX is a force to be had... and honestly, I wouldn't play him any other way... multiclassing a monk would compromise the true effectiveness of a monk.
what if?
I do just 1 in fighter class after I hit lvl 4 as a monk. This is just to recieve the feats of more armor options etc. Then go back to monk and stay there. My theory may be off here, I'm just trying to do this most effectively. Oh yeah, that and I'm clueless about this class. Or several others LOL I can not stand mages. I know they are powerful in upper levels etc. I just have never had the knack for them :(

a monk looses abilities with armor, even if they have armor proficiencies, once you don stuff with weight, you will loose abilities, much like a caster putting on armor too heavy and they loose arcane effeciency... similar effect...
so if you want to play a monk, my suggestion is to keep everything you hold on him inside bags of holding... less than 15 lbs or so is the MAX you would ever want on a monk. they are quick melee fighters that have honed their bodies into weapons and can dodge blows and even arrows... they have even been known to dodge a fireball within a contained room (i know, sounds crazy, but i've seen it done on PNP... lol)

Okay, I'm convinced, This will be a huge difference from my usual druid or fighter classes.
I've yet to play all the classes. I've been in a rutt. Driud, Pally, Fighter, Ranger. Some are muilti classed. Added rogue with my ranger before. That's about it! I know I need to expand my usage of classes. I don't like being so clueless about what I'm doing LOL
Thanks for the advice everyone. Off to make me a monk! :)
and unarmed... quivering palm strike = pwnage
save vs death

Can anyone confirm that in NWN2 monk levels must be consecutive? I read somewhere that you can't choose monk, then multi and go back to monk (so the multi option would have to be done before or after you choose all the monk levels).

I have 2 characters made so far.
1st character: Aasimar Monk - Level 11 - He's eventually going to be all 20 levels Monk.
2nd character (current): Half-Elf Monk/Sorcerer/RDD - Level 17 - 9 levels of Monk taken first, then 1 level of Sorcerer, then 7 levels of RDD
I love playing my Multi-classed Monk. He's doing a great deal of damage and has enough AC.
I went Unarmed on both Monks, just prefer fighting that way with them.
I thank you all for your tips/comments. I did some reading on classes. I went a totally different route. A route I swore I'd never go. I made a mage type character. LOL Sun Elf Wizard. I may multi class her. But for now I am amazed. She doesn't sux! lol
Thanks again.
BTW this is my first NWN mage ever :p

You can only chose Monk if you are lawful (Lawful good/neutral/evil).
Other than that, you shouldn't have any problem multiclassing, although it's not recommended to do so (even written on the loading tips).

Monk is one of the classes I would least likely pick... I have been a sorcerer before, however...well, multiclassed it to get the construct in HotU. What kind of mage are you? :p (P.S. You should change it to Monks, as Monk's is showing possession. :D)
I love my previous monk :p !!
No multiclassing, and go the path of high DEX. Initially need support of other tankers around ... :( at least until i got me Improved KnockDown (they should use the word SmackDown ;) ) and Furry of Blows !! i love doing that with some Bruce Lee shrieks as background music
Has anyone tried monk going the path of high STR instead ??

that is a dnd rule, and i would assume that they put it in nwn2, though i wouldnt be sure untill i tried it.
you are forgetting the mighty periapt of wisdom +8
dont forget that they add wisdom modifier to AC ;)
