You don't actually need ink. One of the items you find off the golems in the ruins is an rune etched golem piece (or something like that)

The "ink" that you need is found in the caves under the well in Ember. Just go down the rope and enter into the Goblin lair and make your way back to the area that has the glowing stone in it. You will need to have Grobnar with you in order to get the liquid, but head over to the pond that is farthest from the stone. I think that there are only 2 there, so which ever one the stone is NOT sitting in. Grobnar will collect the liquid automatically, just keep walking around in that area.

Hope that helps,

Maljinn

Ink? Rune Etched Golem Piece? Man... I only have 2 or three Iron Golem Parts... Where is the Rune Etched Golem Piece? As stated in previous posts, I have restarted my game over 4 times before completing Chapter 2...heh.

I could never make the construct work, though I think I had the "ink" part (the one mentioned above). Do you have to fight the golem in Ammon Jerro's haven to get some part? (because I just sneaked behind it, for I could not defeat it)

When inside the Gem Mines, during the Rites of Purification quest, there is a blacksmith room to the far right, once you enter past the room with the ghost NPC and bookshelves...

inside this blacksmith room, there is a few crafting tables and a cauldron.. the runes are inside the cauldron

-Gem mines for the purification test has the rune on some mobs.
-Ink can be gotten through taking grobnar with you to ember, at some green underground pool.
-You need a book that you get when getting the keep (if you didn't loot it during the assault it's in the library).

That should construct your golem.

To improve it:

-12 in armor crafting/12 weapon crafting/ 12 alchemy to improve having higher skills has no effects.

-When killing the guy with the golems you get a book to further improve the golem.

Quite a good addition to your party, hits hard is big so can chain knockdown most opponents with ease.

Ooooh, cool! Thanks. :D I can access all of those locations now... time to go try it out. :)

I never finished the golem either, but it didn't seem to matter. When it came time for the siege, it was there in the war room ready to use. But there is a book that instructs you how and what to write as far as runes. The ink comes from a pool in the Goblin caves under Ember. You need Grobnar or Elenee to get it.

I believe that only the MAIN character can actually upgrade th golem using the crafting skills.

I got a wierd exploit - I managed to complete the golem WITHOUT the rune etched piece. When going thru the keep on the way to disrupt Garius' dark ritual, I found and looted the book on golemcraft (not the Tome of Ilkazatar) in the Library. After I got the keep, Grobnar et al went back to the caves under Ember, got the glowing ink and returned to the keep. Then after the Library was rebuilt I found a SECOND copy of the tome of golemcraft. Apparently the game has a counter that ONLY counts the number of pieces that you find and NOT which pieces they actually are! Because with TWO copies of the book and the ink, I had the Golem up and running. I even tried hiding the pieces in a bookshelf or another room, but it didn't matter. I was still able to complete the golem without the rune piece - and all of the copies of the book and the ink vanished.

This was in version 1.03 English.

I have a second copy as well...however I believe I will keep it. :p

what does the golem actualy do when youve fixed it, can you take insted of men onto the walls or something? and if so, why does it appear in the warroom when you are takeing councle at the end when you havent finnished the damn thing.

when you finish the golem, it's can be another member of your party. a companion, if you will.

arathalion

ok, does it gain xp and level?

wandaien

probably, but I'm not sure how it's leveling process works, probably just increases stats... and there are specific feats within the game pertaining to the golem construct about upgrades: armor, health, etc...

1796 Feat_construct_upgrade_hp
1797 Feat_construct_upgrade_ac
1798 Feat_construct_upgrade_st rength

in therioy, if it levels it will gain construct levels (monster class).

Oh yes, I agree. I rather chose the Golem over any other party member LOL (well, except for the romance part hehe)

I still don't get the construct upgrade thing... you find extra parts?
If so - where can I find them? (just a little forward planning :p )

To get the construct working in the first place, you need three things:

glowing ink (found in goblin caves under ember)
a rune etched stone (found in the cauldron in the blacksmiths shop in the gem mines)
and the tome of golemcraft found in the library in the keep

once the golem is up and working, you can upgrade it further if you have sufficient skill ranks in craft armor, craft alchemy or craft weapon - if you try and fail and Sand is in your party, then he can do the upgrades for you. :)

then if you find the tome of ilkzatar (or the tome of itchy and scratchy as some on the forums refers ti to - lol) - you can upgrade it further I believe

The iron golem fragments you find in the gem mines and in the Haven are only useful for distilling essences. They don't do anything for the golems afaik.

I completely forgot to go back and get the Golem before I finished chapter 1 and got Shandra.

Can you go back to the Githyanki Lair and go and get the broken construct later, or do you have to get it before the end of Chapter 1? I know it's not possible at the beginning of Chapter 2, since you can only go to around Neverwinter.

Wel - I didn't pick up my golem as well - but I got him in the basement when I got my keep :D

I tried walking back and fetch it, but there does not seem to be a way. It automatically appears in the Keep, I reckon.

AS long as you took the dialogue path saying that we'll pick this up thing up on the way out, the golem will reappear. :D

I've gotten all the parts I need to fix the golem, but Grobnar won't fix him for some reason.

I got the rune piece, the ink, and the book, and showed them all to grobnar, and my journal says I should be able to just talk to grobnar and have him fix the golem, but when I speak to him in the basement there's no options even referring to the golem.

Is there a console command I can use to just bypass it and complete the quest, adding the golem to my party roster? Is this just a bug that has no fix?

I use the golem as a companion for my loner warlock... it makes the perfect companion and looks great tanking while I blast away with my warpfire... (sorry, bit of a cross reference to Warhammer psykers there...)

If Grobnar won't help you, do you have enough reputation with him? He may not like you enough...

I do remember finishing the golem without the rune as well...

There are enough items that give crafting bonuses, you can easily make the 12 points needed for the crafting as well...

I got it going with only the tome and stone. I never got the glowing ink as I didn't bother with Grobnar until forced, and I still got the golem up and running. However, I'm going to hit the Ember caves again and see if I can turn up the missing piece and upgrade the golem. Harder beatdown = good deal.

I also got it going without the rune. I managed to get TWO copies of the tome of golemcraft (one from the library during the first battle of Crossroad Keep, and a second one from the library after it had been repaired) and the ink and was able to get it totally up and running. I think the game code only checks for the total number of pieces you find and not which ones they are specifically.
