So, I'm in the Merdelain Gauntlet, or whatever you want to call it...the place full of Black Fog. I have fought my way to the 3 Shadow reavers, and I give up. At no point in here have I been able to rest, and I have cleared every room, tried to rest before and after, in every room in the dungeon. Nothing, I just get interrupted. So my spellcasters are all out of spells, rods, wands, everything. Is there something I've missed? I can't beat these Shadow Reavers as it stands, neither the Gith or Ammon Jerro can seem to accomplish anything at all with the True Names. I have fought this 6 times today and my entire party dies before I can get even one SR down to half strength. Has anyone beat them, and if so, how?

I have a L19 Paladin with Qara, Khelgar, Zhaejeve, and Ammon.

Rofl, it's Vale of Merdelain...

Anyway, you will be able to rest in *any* of the rooms, just make sure you've killed all the enemies... sometimes they can be hard to see.

As for the true names, you've actually got to stay on the character saying them *until* after you see the white light going up from them (it's recommended to stay on the character until they have finished reading the scroll though), otherwise they'll most likely just go back to casting/attacking due to the poor AI.

Hope this helps!

I have just got to this area myself, and experienced similar problems. I figured that everytime I rested I was interrupted, however if you attempt to rest three or four times in the one spot they run out of ambushes. Just stick it out, fight your way through each mob and try to rest again straight after it.

Best of luck with those reavers.

I got through it...thanks. I never was able to rest, but I was able to get through by 1) putting Ammon and Zhaejave in puppet mode 2) telling them to stand their ground way way back at the top of the landing 3) as soon as the cutscene finished running everyone else back to the top of the landing. The reasons for is simple - using those True Name scrolls takes a long, long time, and if the characters are left on their own they'll constantly get interrupted, or start attacking before they can finish using the scroll. We took down the one reaver who teleports up this way in melee, the other one followed, and we did the same for him. After that, the last reaver seems to forget we exist, so we True Named him from a safe distance and gang tackled him. Didn't need any spells...but even after defeating him I still couldn't rest. So I cranked the difficulty down to Easy, rested without interruption, and cranked it back up to Normal afterwards. That worked just fine.

Thanks to those who responded

Just in case someone have this problem and want a effectivly way to beat them, since this is one of the toughest fights in the game:

Select puppet mode on all.
Now, keep your party near the wall on the small area right before the stairs to the shadow reavers.
Walk down alone and trigger the fight.
After you've finished talking, immediatly run back to the top of the stairs, and get the teleported shadowreavers attention.
This way, you only have to fight two of them at the time.
Keep Ammon and Zhaejeva on each corner and let them recite one reaver each.
Bring Khelgar (or any tank) and repeatingly use knockdown on the other shadowreaver (or just occupy him if you don't have a disabler).
After the true name reciting is done. finish them of with bladestorm (or just hit them).
Now you can recite the true name on the last Raever on a safe distance.
After that's finished, use your last bladestorm on the reaver and charge him. He should go down quickly.

Congratulations!
