View Full Version : Let down
just finished the game but without giving anything away , am I the only one to be left feeling a bit flat at the ending?? It`s been a while since I played the original NWN but I just feel a bit let down by this game.
... welcome to the club.. I'm just keeping up the hope that they will release an expansion REAL soon, that works, and continues the story line...
..hope.. :)

I agree, after seeing the FANTASTIC intro movie I expected the outro to be great as well, but what did I get, a crappy slideshow with no logical ending... ah well, maybe Bioware will do an exp soon
What was with the dude's voice at the end? Was that a major "oh my goodness we have three days until release, quick record a voice in the office" moment? His voice sounded NOTHING like the usual and it was SUCH a let down after all the carnage to get to the end...
ah well, maybe Bioware will do an exp soon
It isnt Bioware
ITS OBSIDIAN AND ATARI!!!!
Lol...
sorry had to get that off my chest ;)
The story itself was good. The romance was well..... my grand parents have more fire in them. The end was a "what the heck!" moment indeed. I am also hoping it is a cliff hanger. And yes I agree, what was with that voice nararaiting the end? EWWWW. It was to annoying to listen to  It reminded me of a muppet!
Overall I am gladd I spent my $50.00 though. I'm on my third run now. I found I have missed more quest! I'm trying to be more thorough this time hehe :D
Regards & my .02 cents :)

People's Nwn knowledge these days... they don't even know who made the games they play O.o
Very good game, but the ending really, really sucks - What I would like to see, is you being able to explore after the battle, reparing the keep again & build new structures etc. but unfortunately, I don't think that's going to happen.
I felt the ending was very much a let down, considering how good *most* of the story was, the romance needs either removing or improving (personally i'd prefer improving).
Obsidian need to think of better endings... and hurry up and make expansion packs for Nwn2 :p

Oh Oh Oh!!! *holds hand up!!* I knew Bioware had nothing to do with it! hehe. They just have boards for it etc. I would assume b/c of NWN1. I don't even bother going to there boards for NWN2. Why would I when I can just come here? :p
Cheers!

I'd rather see Obsidan work on patching up NWN2 than releasing expansion packs. With the game/toolset up to scratch then we have access to unlimited creations and expansions from the community rather than just one extra story which still has the same gameplay issues.
Any expansion pack will likely be adding extra feats/spells, maybe epic levels which is fine, although any extras 'could' have been in the original game, since it was released after all the NWN expansion packs and any improved story 'could' also have been in the original. Making something better leaves you asking why the original wasn't good enough from the start. At least have NWN2 capable of everything NWN1 was, then we know that any expansion pack adds things we've never had/seen/used before.
C'mon, you know they're going to come out with an expansion/s. I'll bet they were working on one when the game was released.
Dude, chill, whats with the attitude, of course I knew that Bioware didn't make NWN2, but what I want is for them to make the exp, and not Obsidian, hence the post... but nvm
he is just cracking jokes :)
dont take that too serious mate :)

BUT....
Bioware will NEVER make an expansion for NWN2 either ;)
PS: Nice to see a man from my Deda's homeland Giga ;)
I just finished the game, and I'm not let down by the ending. Let down is way to mild. I'm totally ****** off about it. It was absoutely the worst game ending ever.
To make a game that ends without resolution, just so your customers will have to buy an expansion to finish it, is the lowest form of marketing there is. They sold us an incomplete game at full game price. It's like if you went to buy a car, then after you got it, you found out you had to buy the keys if you actually wanted it to run, and what's worse, you couldn't get the keys for a few months.
No company, in any business, has to resort to that kind of marketing. If you make a quality product, and support your customers, they will buy your products in the future. Unfortunately gaming companies are not held to the same standards that other businesses are. That is mostly because a vast majority of gamers are younger people, who don't have to actually work for a living and don't understand the true value of money.
I get so tired of hearing fanboys say that's just the way it is in this business, or it's not this company's fault - this other company forced them to rush the game out. They don't make games as a favor to you. It's a business, and they sell a product. You are not just a gamer. You are a customer. They do it for a living, and it's your money that pays their salaries. You have the right to demand a quality product for your money.
I've already made a pact with myself to never buy a new game until it's patched, and that's what I did with this one. I guess that wasn't enough. If they are going to sell incomplete games, then I will just wait until they release a bundle with all the expansions, and it's in the bargain rack. I enjoy playing games, but I work hard for my money, and I don't need to play a game so bad that I have to compromise all fair business sensibility to do it.

I would typically never respond to a post that is so fueled with anger. However, something caught my eye while reading this post. "No company, in any business, has to resort to that kind of marketing" This is so far from the truth
Lets look at the movie industry.) The major block buster Lord of the Rings. A trilogy. This was a planned trilogy at that. Also Spider man or the Matrix. All planned trilogies. LotR dropped off release 1 & 2 with no resolve at the end. A typical marketing strategy to get paying customers to come back.
Toys!) There are so many toys out there to buy for our children or for yourself. You get the base function of the toy, Then here is the catch. There are 1000 accessories to purchase just so the toy can be truly enjoyable.
Almost all marketing has on going catches with the sale of there product. This is how they make money, and keep making money over and over. There is always and upgrade. Bigger, better, faster more syndrom is part of the buyers fever. Companies know this. If they didn't, they would go belly up.
Computers) I do not even think I need to go there with this one. The constant race to upgrade (game vs system) I think they tag team each other.
I think I can say this is a popular consensus the ending sucked. It does make us all desire the expansion and look forward to the next story. imho, there is nothing wrong with this type of marketing. It is actually quite smart.
Even with the ending not giving any completeness <---is that a word? lol :p , The game itself was good. The story was good. It had a good fun factor to it. I personally do not feel cheated out of my $50.00.
This is in no way an arguement by any means. This is also just my opinion. Which also really means nothing to anyone but myself. :)

Indeed, we need more dedicated members... We are 3rd in the NWN Top 200... we musn't settle for anything less than first!!! :D I don't see how some NWN Capture the flag website is beating this site. @_@ If you wanna play CTF, go get Halo or something!!!!!! I, personally, think a CTF game for an RPG is stupidity...but that is me.
if everyone voted we would be #1 by far :)

True... I voted both on my comp and at my school! ..I almost had a heart-attack when I realized this site was not blocked! My school blocks everything...even tried to block Wikipedia at one point, but they unblocked it. Most likely because of my Computer Graphics teacher...speaking of which, we will be the first students in the nation to get 3ds.max for home use for free! :D So I was wondering...can you import .max models into NWN2 like you can in WarCraft III? And to get back on topic... I agree that there were quite a few letdowns within the game such as romance... :( I have yet to complete the game yet though due to the fact that I continue to keep restarting once I'm about 2/3 of the way done... lol. :p

I think the comment by bigchief (http://www.thieves-guild.net:80/forum/member.php?u=1132) was perhaps not put as thought. If you take a look at NWN1 the initial game release was complete, it had a finished campaign (with actual multi-player support even with multiple parties competing), a functional and user friendly toolset, good multiplayer and few, if any 'show-stopper' bugs. The expansion packs were merely add-ons, you didn't 'need' them, everything was already in the original but if you wanted more it was available.
NWN2 was made FOR expansions, it's incomplete and the explanation is that they want people to buy the game early to provide additional time and money for the future releases which should actually be part of the original game.
This wouldn't be such a problem if the multiplayer and toolset were in a reasonable state, we wouldn't mind waiting while we play online with custom modules but that just isn't going to happen on any large scale, not like NWN1 where people were throwing out custom content in such quantities that you had an endless choice of new modules to play, new rulesets to try, new ideas and concepts. NWN2 is likely to only see about 1-10 released community campaigns worthy of playing since the toolset requires a LOT of time to produce something playable and even then with the requirement to install the hundreds of MBs of modules BEFORE you even try it. I don't see people downloading anything but the best ones which will likely only be ready in at least a year. PWs aren't even worth considering with the game as it is now, in NWN PWs were available to all from very early on, you could just join a server, no downloads needed and watch as it expands as you spend time there, not likely to ever happen in NWN2. Again, people will only play PWs that seem complete and good since they HAVE to be pre-downloaded and we'll have to wait a LONG time for those.
Then we have the multiplayer issues where the same party MUST be in the same area (a killer for PWs), the loading times are painful, no doubt due to the module file sizes and the original campaign is practically no different in multiplayer since you already have a party of NPCs to play with.
The campaign is fun to play, but once it's finished you then realise that that's it, NWN2 is done, it can go back on the shelf. The first thing I did after finishing NWN was to go and find a PW to play on and that one PW lasted me a year despite being one of hundreds available. Then with the expansion packs even more PWs and campaign modules were available as wel as all hose new classes, feats, spells, and levels to play. It just got better and better. NWN2 just gets worse the more you look into it. It might have seemed better had I not played NWN1 but then NWN1 was what made me buy NWN2 so I really expected more...
You know, there is something in every game that comes out, that somebody doesn't like. Maybe the ending is under whelming, and it has it's fair share of bugs. But, as it was said, the company is out to make a profit. It's not a public service. Expansions help them to show a profit. No profit, no more games. And as far as bugs go, alittle more beta testing might have helped. But because of the D & D rules, it's a very complex game. Trying to figure out every possible outcome for every possible combination of characters and actions, is without a doubt, an extreme task. One, I doubt, any of us could do perfectly. There is also the added pressure of getting the game out by a specific time. The holidays are coming, and I don't blame them for wanting it out before then. They could lose a lot of money, if it came out afterwards. I don't know if this is a planned title for the PS3, but if it is, then all the more reason to get it out now. No matter what you expect, you have to accept their side of the issue also. These games nowdays, cost millions to make. Comes a time they have to get it out, in order to start getting some of that money back. Just some things to remember, the next time your at the store, looking at a new game. I think whoever is responsible, is doing a pretty good job, getting the fixes out as soon as possible. If you want perfection, go to church this Sunday, and talk to God, not the guy at the game company.
Haha, a similar thing happened at my school (when I was there - i'm now in first year at university) - but it was because students were adding insulting definitions for some of the students there... at first it was completely blocked, but in the and they just blocked people from editing it :p

The campaign is fun to play, but once it's finished you then realise that that's it, NWN2 is done, it can go back on the shelf.
I thinkyou`ve hit the nail on the head - I think in my original post what I was trying to say was that I felt a bit underwhelmed. I felt that there could have been more tasks to get you more involved or get the grey matter going, there were parts of the storyline that could have been expanded on such as Wendersnaven (what was the point in that by the way??) NWN was a good game and I enjoyed and looked forward to the expansions. I found myself towards the end of NWN2 feeling slightly bored as if I could walk away from it for a few weeks and go back to it. With a good game you are addicted and find yourself being (perhaps rather sad I know ) on the pc for hours, thinking just another 5 mins until I do .....Rather like a good book you should not be able to put it down!! It wasn`t a bad game as such - just not so good when you compare it to the original (IMHO).
In truth, I kind of feel like its KOTOR 2 all over again. Great story, great graphics and then, when you got to the end...poof...and the lone ranger rides off into the sunset. But what I do find fun about it is...the part that I can make my own campaign. So what if the ending to this one was about as great as watching the original Power Rangers over again now that your older, I can be a geek and make something better.

In truth, I kind of feel like its KOTOR 2 all over again.
That happens to be the only other game Obsidian has made, with Bioware making KOTOR1 as well as NWN1 (for those that didn't know)...
Unlike the original the toolset is not in a state where anyone can just have a go and make something simple, you really have to spend a lot of time with it and this will likely put off a lot of those that were able to just have a bash in the NWN1 toolset. Most of the creation wizards have been removed and the interface is messy, although it can produce some good results i'd say that 99% of people with NWN2 (which includes veteran toolset builders from NWN1) won't really give the toolset much attention simply because it's not nice to use. To top it off you can no-longer just host your module online for anyone to join and test it, every client needs it pre-installed which sorta cuts the fun of spontaneous team based and PW modules... :(
Haha, a similar thing happened at my school (when I was there - i'm now in first year at university) - but it was because students were adding insulting definitions for some of the students there... at first it was completely blocked, but in the and they just blocked people from editing it :p
Yeah, that is what happened, now our school server is denied the ability to edit it, but as for most other sites we just cannot go to them... I hate Novell Client. But anyhow, as I stated before the overall campaign of NWN2 is very fun, however, as in KotOR 2 many pluses to the game such as romance has been kept to a minimum. I would not call it romance at all. :( It adds to the story to be able to develop deeper relationships with your companions, be it romantic or just a really good friend.

UGHHHH!! What a rip off!! I was sooo disappointed with the ending and the romance. I was looking forward to the romance and it took forever to barely happen.
Was that end voice over a nice tag on or what?!? Scheesh. I agree, it seemed thrown in at the last minute. Kindof "um, well, we always let them have a happy ending so, um, let's throw a surprise ending in. SURPRISE!!"
Talk about cheesy and cheap. I just feel dirty or something. Yuck on Obsidian

The ending to this game would drive one to piracy. Pay for that? And it was such a sucker punch, as I really enjoyed it up till then, even the rather lame end phase of the game. As mentioned elsewhere here, the develepors owe us an expansion. If they cared (hah!) they would rescue this ridiculous ending in the expansion. Such a shame.

i would assume that all schools in an area (or under one administration) would have the same filter. i worked for the ACT governments Dep. of Edu. basically they where there own ISP and the filter was done in the Dep. instead of the school, though the school could create exceptions.
there are a few long posts here, sorry, but im not going to read them. i will say however that the LotR was not a planed trilogy, but tolkeins publisher made him split them, and then the movie was just going off the books.
I also believe that the matrix was not a planed trilogy, but the wakoski brothers (now brother and sister) where throwing the idea of extra movies around, and after the success of the first one they decided to go a head. the first was a good stand alone movie, but it was obvious the second 2 where written together, and could have been one movie.
see dark city. its all three movies in one.
yeah, the ending was kind of bad, but really, how else would they have ended it after giving you a keep. but yeah, i recon that we might get to start the expantion in the hells.
. Why would I when I can just come here? :p
