View Full Version : Vale of Merdelain - Quick Question... (Spoilers!)
Hey All,
I'm having a slight problem in the Vale of Merdelain, being that I assume I am doing something wrong, as I get stuck and can not go any further...
Basically, I am trying to get to the room where you have to beat the boss... however I am having a problem getting there, I know you have to enter the black fog/myst/whatever it's actually called (i'll just call it black fog) to get there, however I am sure I am doing something wrong.
The route I have taken is shown below:
http://www.btcentral.org/nwn2/map-screen.png
Area 1 is where you start off in the Vale of Merdelain, then you obviously walk into the bigger section where you start fighting lots of evil creatures, notice where I put the question mark on the map and the screenshot, this is where on the map it says there is black fog, however if I walk there, I do not get teleported anywhere, so I have to go past the trap, indicated by the dashed red line on the picture and map, and use the black fog to be teleported (numbered as 2), however after that, you go round in a loop (and end up by the stairs of the section labled 2), you can not go down the stairs, and can not go anywhere else... in otherwords you are stuck...
Have I just done something completely stupid? If so would someone please be kind enough to point me in the right direction? - As I really want to complete this game! I have tried both the current and beta patches, neither make any difference to this, except the beta patch makes the game a massively amount less laggy, the framerate is very good, and I can finally set the graphic settings to maximum (including a 1280x800 res!) without it taking forever to get somewhere!
Many Thanks.

Thank you for the kind words & the welcome,
Very few forums offer this kind of welcome to new members and this I feel is one of this things that will make this site stand out above the rest, hopefully i'll be able to complete the game soon with someone's help too ;) - and also hopefully be able to help out with other people's problems as they arise.
Cheers,

The finall black fog is a little tricky to find. That one on the starway is a teaser. Go around the top part of the floor "either that room or the one next to it. It is actually around a corner in one of thoughs rooms. And it is not obvious. I wish i could remember the exact location. I had the same issue and it took me some wandering to find it.

Good Luck

Thank you very much!
I was hoping this was the case rather than being some sort of bug, time to go fog hunting for me ;)
Hopefully i'll be able to find it soon enough!

Edit: Found the location, now the game crashes during the reavers fight. Yay :(
I'm so sorry. My rule of thumb is. Save before any boss fights!!! Hope it is not to much trouble getting there again. :)

have you installed the beta patch?
Thank you very much!

Yes - I installed the beta patch.
Luckilly I also save before any boss fights etc. and on the 6th attempt managed to beat the 3 reavers, and after that, on the second attempt I completed the game without it crashing. Very good game, but the ending really, really sucks - What I would like to see, is you being able to explore after the battle, reparing the keep again & build new structures etc. but unfortunately, I don't think that's going to happen.

Gratz on finishing the game. Yes the story was good, The romance was a joke or a passing thought of the writer. And the end did indeed suck! Hopefully the next expansion fills in all the "what the heck?" for the ending. hehe My thoery is Bishop will be back. At least it is a thoery.
I'm ready for the next expansion! Or at least some good player made mods! Which is why I still play NWN1 to! hehe :D

Thanks,
Same goes for me, I love the good old NW1 mods :D - can't wait for some decent quality NW2 mods, and expansion pack(s) :p

i remember asking this question before, and i remember the answer, but i cant get it to work
in this area (reason im using this post as aposed to a new one) where can you rest without being attacked?
it just doesnt seem to want to happen.
i was told its possible in the right place, but im started a new game cause i couldnt rest, and my character wasnt suted to keep going with out rest, so i have to ask again.... where? a map with circles would be nice.
usually after you kill everything in a room, you can rest... but if you are having trouble and playing on a harder setting... change the difficulty to easy, rest, then change it back...

dnd hardcore rules setting.... and after i kill everything i rest, and im attacked by vampires that just spawn next to me for resting
hmm... it worked to... there you go.
but surely there is a better way to do this, as spellcasters shall surely have problems here
