View Full Version : Bishop and the dagger
I did a little search through voice overacting files and found some things Bishop has never told me. About the dagger he gives to the boy in Ember and about his village. Do you actually get to that village at some point? Now, what am I missing?
Could you, my fair thieves, share with me the knowledge of when can I get into certain interesting situations regarding Bishop?

I also get the conversation about the dagger with Bishop, except that I told the boy to get lost so I don't know why i'm now able to ask Bishop about the dagger he gave to the boy... oh well...
Hey,
The dagger scene occurs in Act 1 in Ember. If memory serves me correctly, after you repel the Gith ambush (when you are trying to rescue Shandra), near the World Map transition, you will see a boy. He asks you for an item to save his life. He looks thru your stuff, says you do not have it. He asks to look through Bishop's. I convinced Bishop to give it to him, but I am not sure the result yet...
Got there. But I've found the voice acting! As if there's more word about that darned dagger and I don't know how or when to make Bishop actually say the lines.:(

The result is quite nice actualy :) When you encounter the boy again later (during your trial) he will have survived thanks to the dagger which is now a considerably good weapon and will give it back to you, and help you with your trial.
I am glad to hear that! I am sure I lost some cool points with Bishop for that one.
After passing through ember, you acounter a boy named Marcus. You don't know this yet, but he's kind of a seer, and can see into the future.
He mentioned that Ember will be destroyed, like it did in act2 and that he needs Bishops dagger to survive.
If you force Bishop to give him the dagger, you'll lose influence with him (-3 i think).
What you should do, is to tell him: "keep traveling with me, and you're salery will increase by ten-fold" or something like that.
Just offer him alot of money if he gives Marcus the dagger, and you won't lose influence.
The results of giving Marcus the knife comes on act2, when you're about to investigate the slaughter of Ember.
After arriving to Ember to gather evidence, Sand mention the well if you walk close to it.
Climbing down in it will take you to an underground cave (don't miss the ore behind the rope).
There you find Marcus, who have survived thanks to the knife, and have hidden down here all this time.
Before he leaves after you talk to him, he tells you that he doesn't need the knife you gave him anymore, and he gives it back to you.
The dagger, called "Bishop's dagger" is one of the best dagger in OC (imo), with high enchantmants, massive critical, keen ect.
An easy choice for any dagger focused rouge (like i was).
So now you guys know what the results is in giving the dagger to Marcus.
thank you for the wonderful answer. Although I didnt need it anymore, cuz I got the dagger yet. But since noone ever answered I thought it was nice to do so...
Hoookay.
I got the dagger, but didn't use it much. What I still wonder is how is the conversation with Bishop about it not included (is it not?) in the game (not the one with Marcus). I found his voice acting and heard him talk about the dagger, his village and the man he got the dagger from, and that he used it to flay animals and hunt because he was often hungry! Know something about that? :)
You'll only hear that from Bishop, if your influence with him is higher. I think, the more of an evil character you have, the more influence you'll have with Bishop. He's not the nicest guy in the game. For all the options you have for answers in the game, there is little you can do to change a characters feelings. It's like, either you agree with them or you don't. You can't change their minds. Bishop is anti-social, and you can't change that. That is the one drawback with the dialogue, that I see.
Aww, I was evil and often got influence with him increase, yet nothing of the dagger story. I want to play again!!!
I never got the story out of him either. Never had enough influence with him. But I think it would be easier with a evil character. With his attitude, a good character seems to go against his way of thinking most times.

When you talk to him, he usually speaks to you as a hero (not liking it, of course), but it doesn't make much sense, because you just can't be good and have high influence with him, as he's always complaining when you try to do good deeds, and aproves only of the bad ones. So, I don't like the betrayal thing, as he behaves like your character can't be a smart evildoer themselves. Well, if they are, at least the ending is worth it :D

I got him to tell me with my CG fighter.

indeed that is lurchman. It is not possible that you can let your companions adapt to your doing. You should imagine how big the game would have to be then... Maybe it will be something for NWN 3 :p

Really? Perhaps I haven't talked to him often enough and missed the opportunity to hear it? :(

Aw. Although it's hard, we'll be waiting for it, won't we? :)

Your right, most people don't realize how large and complex AI files can be. And demanding on the system. But it's the one thing that can really make the game seem real. It's a future thing for sure.

The console key is usually referred to as ~. on some kbd the console key is the one just under ESQ. But as on my it's the key left of backspace if i also press the shift key. As said; It might be different, because it depends on your kbd and its settings.
YAY! Thank you for making me think on my keyboard settings! I put the default writing language on my computer to be Serbian, so that I could use some of our extra letters, but forgot that it would affect things even in games! When I switch it to English, the console can open! Yay! I can try some things now!
