i just killed the giants, but it would be interesting to know... im assuming that its somewhere in the montains and that they put the location on your map
As I played a good character I gave the Giants the benefit of the doubt and they said that if I killed the dragon they would give me the belt.
Cannot remember if they mark the map, but you come out of the fire giant encampment and then make your way to the top of the map from the east side. Basically the area transition is the same height as the fire giant one, but to the right abit. There is no shortcut to it apart from going south and then east and then north. Hope that makes sense.
The dragon will then give you the option that if you kill the fire giants he will help you. Go back to the fire encampment and kill them all mwahahahaha...sorry did I say I played a good character :D
Sorry for the thread people..i am so blind. There are 2 locations in the map that say "entrance to canyon" To the left are the giants and the to the right is the dragon...Blind...Blind... Blind...

What I did was go talk to the dragon and agree to kill the giants then I talked to the giants and said I would kill the dragon. Then the dragon shows up to help me kill the giants and i chose the option of attack both. I immediately disengaged and let the dragon and giants go at it for a bit then went after the dragon. Had to reload quite a bit to find a good plan but finally did it. Once I looted everything I headed back to the dragon's hoard and got it.

Does anyone out there have any particular strategies for defeating the Red Dragon?
I'll admit that I am attempting it at the moment with what I consider to be my B-team (ie I have no real offensive spell casters), but I am having no luck what-so-ever. In fact, so far the best I have managed is to get her down to half health.
I have also not really focused on creating decent items as so far I haven't needed them. Although I'm sure that going from a long sword +3 to +5, and full plate +5 will make a world of difference.
However I am wondering if anyone has found a reliable way of defeating her. Do particular spells work well, is a particular buff useful, is the loot worth the effort, etc?
Any suggestions or observations would be most welcome.
It's pretty simple. You lie him, and you lure him to the fire giants camp. There, when you have to choose who are you fighting with, you fight against the dragon. After you defeat him, let your companions fight with the red giants, and retreat to the place you entered in the camp. From there, you beat the fire giants. One-by-one !!!
I got Quara far away from the dragon lady, sent everyone else to fight her, and didn't stop casting umm... someone's... greater missile storm at her :)
I waited untill i had reformed the shards into the sword, then went back and used the shard storm on it. with all my other characters helping out i defeated it in 2 mins.
i killed her in her lair
and then went over to Fire Giants and killed them
Shud be able to kill her without spellcasters,
get urself +2 or +3 gear and it will be easy
the dwarven strongehold has a merchant that sells some fire resistance gear that could be useful.. :)
The most simple way I found is to lie to the dragon you will kill the giants, go to the giants stronghold, when the dragons comes attack the dragon together with the giants and deal with them when you finish off the dragon after a brief dialogue :)

in fighting the giants, I got the deal from the giants, went to the dragon, made the deal with it and went back to the giants and killed them, the dragon never showed up...is there something I need to do to get it to come?

Unfortunately sounds like a bug to me, if you report it on the official forums, they will most likely be able to give you a command to fix it, either that or if you haven't already you could try the beta patch.
Hope this helps!
After making a deal with the dragon, go back to the fire giants camp and talk to the giant king. He will ask if the dragon is dead, reply "not yet" and he will threaten you. The dragon will then appear and you will have the options of killing both of them or take sides with either one of them.
Hope this help
I have problem to kill this Dragon! I tried many time. I easilly drop him close to dead in few minutes but he start to heal himself and I got a fresh new dragon to kill! Last time I tried with me (Fighter 8 / Weapon master 7 / Never...1), The Paladin, The Dwarf warrior, The druid Eleane and Sand the Wizard. Eleane cast Immunity to fire and stoneskin on everyone. Sand cast all offensive spell he can. But I still have to fight him twice... Anyone have an idea?

I agree. I did the same thing. I just knew that draggy would be a tough one to handle. Having the Hillfire giants to assist is a huge help.
I pretty much did thesame thing. I lied to the dragon, and when the options came up, I chose to fight both. I let the Fire giant king fight the dragon, while I attacked the remaining giants. By the time they were all dead, the dragon and the giant king had beat each other good, and it wasn't too hard to finish them both off.
In Chapter 3 we have to fight 2 black dragons (after we talk with the dragon spirit and he asks us to destroy his heart)....
I tried killing the dragons with a party composed of: me (fighter lvl17), neeshka, Kelgar, qara and the druid girl (don't remember the name); and got my *** completely kicked. Any suggestions or tactics?

Destroy the crystal heart. The faster you destroy that, no issues with the dragons. Let whom ever does the most damage destroy the heart. And keep them healed! This makes matters far more easy for you. :)
If you melee, right click and select "bash" on the heart
HTH
Good luck

I have a problem concering this.
I could kill the dragons either with the party i had. The Githzerai woman is useless, so i left the area and changed my group. Then i came back and realised i couldnt interact with the heart anymore, so i went back to the original group to try killing them again, and still, i could not interact. Then i worked out i could bash it. I did that, no dragons came, heart destroyed... And now nothing.
No one is telling me where to go, no one is giving me the location of the next shadow reaver or anything... And also, upon entering the library in the keep, Sand attacks me and i have to kill him. He comes back if i leave, but he always attacks me.
My last save is days ago :(
Anyone got any info on this?
antaz, your game is bugged...purhaps you should have saved a bit more often. only way to really get around this is to go in and edit the scripting of your game, or just reload that saved game and do it over again. sorry dude

Did you try talking to the spirit AFTER bashing the heart?
And as for the first person. If you are having problems with fear grab a pally. But otherwise just summon alot of junk to distract the dragons and concentrate on one at a time. You dont want to just bash the heart because they drop alot of good stuff. (the dragons that is.)
I would drop neeshka (Because I think she sucks neways.) and grab the gith cleric. She can heal your peeps as you take damage so that should help. Also just use all your bombs with quara like the missiles and the other angry spells and the dragons should go down pretty quickly. (also remember to buff before the battle and to make Elanne (the druid) shapeshift.)

Eeeek! You have some odd bugs. None of my henchman have attacked me. Some have gone missing though. lol The gnome has attacked the Gith. No clue why. All I had to do is command them to follow me and it stopped.
When the dragon asked me to destroy his heart and the dragons showed up. I just assumed the crystal heart was the key to the chaos.
Are you up to date with patches? You may want to consider start a new game. I know this can be so frustraiting. I had to start a new game once almost half way through my first run of the OC. I hope you find the best solution that makes you happy. Or at least less aggrivated :)
Good Luck

Looks like a reload it is. Back to Hifcliff. Leave me to do that short part over again, and then the dwarves and stuff after that
And no im not up to date with patches, im on the realse version (for good reason) :(

I'm not sure what your reasons are. And they are your own. However I'd like to stress there were a lot of fixes. I noticed a lot of players concerned with henchman fighting each other etc. This seems to have calmed a lot since the 1.03 release.
I wish you the best of luck finishing the game. Have fun!

It's not supprising your game is bugged if you are using the origional version, if you use that version the game is virtually unplayable.
There is no good reason not to update. Period.
If you can not/will not update to the latest version, then you are likely to get the same bug again even on a re-run and in this case it is unlikely we will be able to help you.

meh... lol.. i'm still playing on v1.00 and I never really encountered many bugs that i couldn't work around without reloading back to prior saves and redo-ing a bit differently.... nor did i ever have problems of companions trying to kill me or eachother... till the end when fighting Garius and Sand turned against me... lol he was the first to eat a empowered fireball from Qara... those 2 hated eachother anyway

Well, i DO have a good reason why i cant update. Which i will not share, but you can probably work out on your own.
I think if i reload and just interact with the heart, then fight and kill the dragons, things should be ok. Fingers crossed anyways.
Check your PMs :)

Heh, on my game Neeshka and Qara turned against me, sand stayed :p
Neeshka probably because I didn't do any of her theiving quests, Qara... well she never liked me :p

Checked and replied to both.

I had it happen once in the gem mine but one of the NPC's was clearly marked as confused or some other similar spell effect, IIRC.
I gave a stand your ground command and they stopped, I changed back to attack nearest and they attacked me again.
I left them on stand your ground for a relatively long period and everything returned to normal.
Something else to consider is what difficulty level you're playing.
If its hard enough, an area spell from another NPC could have hit Sand and that's why he's cheesed off.
I've had similar things happen in NWN1, the faction settings get mixed up and the only solution in that case is to die and respawn.
Not sure if the "death" response in NWN2 produces a similar resetting of the faction setting
You dont want to just bash the heart because they drop alot of good stuff. (the dragons that is.)
You can bash the heart anyway cause both dragons die when you do this and you can keep their loot.... (2000 Xp for bashing the heart)

Do you get extra "xp for fighting two dragons at once" when you bash the heart right away?
I had Quara, Zhaejve (?), Bishop, Casavir and my rogue when I fought them. Like, one or two chars (including my own) were alive all the time, others jumping to their feet periodically... lol. (of course, the Gith was the first one to fall) Used to annoy me, then I got them.
Bah.. cheaters ^^
I just fight the dragon head-on, and then i continue to the giants and slaughter them too.
Just buff your party to the max before the fight, send your main tank to the left so the rest of your part doesn't get hit when he starts breathing fire.
Keep the dragon focused on your main tank (with fire resistance hopefully) and use Qara (or any arcane spellcaster) and cast your most damaging spells.
Isacs greater missle works very good here, Qara usually have fire spells, which doesn't work too well with a big red fire dragon.
This dragon is one of the toughest fights in the games, you should have a hard time killing it.
Don't make it too easy on yourself ^^
I read up on them in the Monster Manual after fighting it. Dragons as a rule are not immune to death magic. Bioware just wanted to make sure you couldn't beat her with dumb luck of rolling a 1 on a save against death magic. like she did when I used finger of death in the first round. stupid Bioware. I could have killed an ancient wyrm in 1 round if not for them.
Obsidian made the game mippy, bioware really had nothing to do with the production of NWN2
ok good cause I like Bioware, stupid Obsidian!:D
If you side with the dragon against the fire giants then let the dragon do all the work it'll already be between 50%-75% health by the time it turns on you, and it should be easier to kill.
Having Qara and/or Sand with you makes this fight a lot easier if you got Isaac's Greater missile storm for them.
Having two casters with empowered Greater missile storms (my main char is a sorc) made even the double dragon fight ridiculously easy. Each dragon only took 4 or 5 missile storms to kill.
