View Full Version : Stuck in Chapter One - have saved Shandra
Gday,
This game is annoying me - love it, like the old Diablo days but I'm stuck.
Couple of questions - Do i have to do all the side quests to finish and progress?
I have saved Shandra, returned to the In and we are going nowhere - have finshed all quests except Khelghors 3 thingo - the dwarf dude - but he disspaeared form my group entirely some time ago - a glitch? and the adamantine - which cannot find for love or money. Also have the dwarven mountains spare part but can't get that to work - but its not a quest/side quest in my journal anyway and last side quest the thief chick's nemesis- got the coin and the journal says he'll be back but thats it- other than that have completed so many more side quests etc than the walkthrough talks about - am L10 all characters, and have all characters at the inn including Shandra.
Unsure if I've been specific enough, but would appreciate any help as bit invivicble in this chapter so want to progres and at least die ?
Its been a fun 5 days off work though :)

No, doing the *sidequests* is not necessary to progress. You miss a lot of loot that way (along with some great influence builders for some of the NPCS)though, but they are NOT necessary to advance the plot. Only the main quests are required to advance you in the game.
From your description, it is not clear exactly where you are in the game but this might help.
You saved Shandra which time? The first time at her farm, or the second time after she is abducted from the inn? If it's the former, there SHOULD be a cut scene after you save her at the farm and return to the Sunken Flagon where a new character called Bishop appears and Shandra gets abducted by the githyanki. Then it's off to the races you go to save Shandra from the clutches of the dreaded gith AGAIN. After you return to the inn the scond time, Act II should trigger, there should be a different cut scene where your character is accused of destroying the town of Ember and murdering it's citizens. If either of those cutscenes is NOT triggering then you are definitely bugged.
As for Neeshka's adversary Leodon (sp?) - you should have gotten a message from him that he wants to meet you in the park in merchants quarter to discuss his coin.
Yes, Khelgar's disappearance is most DEFINITELY a glitch. Combining that with cutscenes not triggering apparently, it sounds like your game is seriously bugged. You will probably have to reload from a much earlier save and try playing again. If the game glitches AGAIN after reloading an earlier save, then your problem is most likely a corrupt module and you will likely have to un-install and reinstall the game.
There ARE some workarounds to get certain of the cutsenes to trigger and advance the game, check out the bioware NWN2 forums (use the search engine!) for specific solutions. However, if you are having problems with MULTIPLE cutscenes and disappearing characters I suspect that you are going to have continued problems in the future.
Hope that helps. Good luck. :)
I'm not sure khelgar's dissapearence is a glitch, cause you get him at the dwarven scouts. As for doing sidequests, one. it's helpful if you have a charecter with a level adjusment and two, you'll be hardpressed to hit 20 if you don't do them.
Thanks, yeah I'm at the bit where form what you say I should have advanced to Chapter 2 as have Bishop etc and we have all returned to the Inn, evertime I talk to Shandra it refers to the previous sence in the conversation options, after defeating that cow in the time portal.
Bugger I really didn't do saves.
Thanks for your sugggestions.

Ahh, appears you might be right about Khelgar's disappearance. Apparently there ARE portions of the game where certain characters tend to disappear for periods of time. I believe that Characters who are unavailable at specific times for in game plot reasons should STILL appear on the party formation menu but will be greyed out (i.e. unavailable for selection). I was assuming that the OP couldn't find Khelgar in that menu either.
