View Full Version : Which Material Is The Prettiest?

I've often pondered which of the special materials is the best-looking in-game.

From what I've heard, adamantine weapons tend to be uglier than most, and from personal experience, I can say that adamantine armor doesn't exactly look like something a good character might wear.

Mithral? From what I've seen, it looks very nice when put into armor, but since it's not really useful as a weapon, I have no idea how mithral weapons look.

Alchemical Silver makes for interesting looks, not to mention they're a favorite weapon type in the OC. Can they even be used to make armor?

Zalantar is pretty much the only material for making spears, as far as I've been told. Is it prettier than duskwood?

I don't know if I've ever seen Umber Hulk Skin armor or shields.

What do you all think? What's the best looking material out there to wield or wear? What do you clothes horses out there on the Sword Coast like to strut when you strut your stuff?

So...no opinions? Pictures maybe?

It would be interesting to see some screen captures showing different armors and weapons made from each of the materials, but it would be quite a project! Remember, too, that weapons and armor also have different looks based on the enchantments (+1, +2, etc) on them. You've got me curious now...

i'd also love to see some nice screen captures showing different materials.
ok, who's volunteering here? ;)

If I could, I would. But I don't have access to my game right now, and even if I did, I don't know anything about screencaps.

I can't be the only one who's interested in my character's personal appearance!

I'll volunteer to take on this little project... I'll just use a character editor to dump all the various weapons and armor on a generic Fighter and take the screen caps. Watch this space for updates... ;-)

Thank you RyanJ. One question though, will there be male and female screenshots? And of different sizes? From what I've seen, armor can take on different appearances depending on whether you're one of the smaller races (halflings, gnomes and dwarves) or a half-orc, and the armor always appears different depending on gender.

No. :p I would need a LOT of free time to accomplish that. Standard Human Male is all you're gonna get for now...

So, to begin, here are the "metal" armors in Adamantine, Dark Steel, and Mithril.

This is a big help, RyanJ!

So does Mithril Chainmail come with a "free cloak" then?

The "free cloak" on Mithril chainmail does seem to be the case. I'm fairly certain that it gets overridden if you equip a different cloak, though.

I figured that was the case. Balduran's Armor does the same thing.

Awesome, thanks for the pic. I've never liked that wing thing on the Mithral Full Plate. Think it looks pretty stupid.
