Ok here goes I have been playing this game for a bit and one thing that is really annoying me is the fact that every time I put something in the blacksmith table I always get invalid recipe. That is all I get. I look at the mold and place in the appropriate amount of Ingots and all I get is not a valid recipe. There isn't any faqs on how to do this so I was wondering one: How do I prevent the not valid recipe BS and two where is there a faq for Blacksmithing in the game. I have my guy at level 8 for craft weapon and another guy around that level for armor, so what is the big deal here?

Hi jodas,

Welcome to Thieves Guild.

What version of the game are you playing?

Do you have MoTB, or SoZ installed?

Have you looked at the crafting guides listed on the left side of this page, be sure to check the one that fits which expansion you are playing.

The process for crafting weapons is fully explained in the OC crafting guides as sirchet pointed it, including the various skill ranks needed for both normal materials and for exotic materials as well.

But to repeat a summary here:

For the OC - you simply put both the mold and the appropriate number of ingots into the blacksmith bench and use the blacksmith's hammer on it. If you have sufficient skill ranks in the appropriate skill (craft armor, craft weapon etc.) the item is made, if not the crafting attempt fails. If there is anything besides the mold and the required raw materials in the bench, the crafting attempt will fail. Usually an invalid recipe error message is the result of having the wrong ingredients in the bench but not always.

If you are trying to craft using exotic materials such as adamantine or mithral, then your skill levels need to be significantly higher. Again this is fully explained in the crafting guide.

If you are absolutely sure that you are doing everything properly, and crafting is still universally failing for you, then I suspect that you are using some 3rd party content that is causing a conflict. Some versions of The Complete Craftsmen mod from the vault will cause that.

It is also well documented that using a no-cd crack can cause almost a total failure in the crafting system no matter if you are doing things properly or not.

If you've read the crafting guide, and you think you are doing everything right, then I would start by removing any third party content and try again. If that fails, re-install.
