So, I was playing around with the Blade Golem after having it activated. I couldn't do any of the upgrades myself, so Sand stepped in. If you repeatedly try to do the upgrades and fail, Sand will keep stepping in. Every time he does, just telling to "Go ahead, I trust you." Every time you do, you'll get 1 influence with him. I don't know if this is a bug or not, but if your influence with sand is low, do this a good half dozen times, and you shouldn't have to worry about having him defect in the last fight!!
