Hey there everybody,
I've tried reading the manual and researching this to no avail. I'm currently traveling on the overland map, and I somehow cannot "truly" enter cities, including the first one that Sa'Sani is in (I can't remember the name off hand). All I can do is enter the Tavern, enter the Shrine of Waukeen, and trade with the city.
Is there a way to enter a particular city to explore, or is that it? I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to do at this point. I got some open-ended entries in the journal, and I'm kinda just wandering around trying to find a flaming battleaxe or kill spiders.

Many of the cities on Samarrach and the Sword Coast can not be entered and only allow you the options you mentioned. The only cities that you CAN truly enter are:
Samarrach
Samargol
Nimbre
Sword Coast
Crossroad Keep
Neverwinter
Port Llast
West Harbour
With all of the others, the only options you have are:
enter the tavern
enter the temple
trade with the city
establish a trading post or visit your trading post (this option opens another string of options)
If you want to feel like you've entered the city you can always choose, "enter the common room in the tavern", It's a good place to pick up info and sometimes companions... uh, henchmen... uh, cohorts? You know what I mean. heh heh
ps... The Fire Axe journal entry gives more clues than you think, you just have to read it carefully... search the mountains young padawan

Entering the tavern is always a good idea. Talk to the bartender and ask him about the latest rumours - free of charge. Plus there might be another quest to be had if someone else is in the tavern.

Actually, Samargol is the one I can't really enter. I get 3 options: Visit the Tavern, Visit the Temple, Trade.
I've tried going to the Tavern's common room and leaving, but I still can't get to Sa'Sani or any of the other merchants. Unless maybe I have to find the flaming battleaxes first or else complete the bounty.

Does it kick you back the OLM when you leave the tavern? If so, that's a serious problem. It could possibly be due to a corrupted save or more seriously a corrupted version of the G module or a faulty game installation.
I've never heard of anyone else having this problem so far patched or not.
Righto, you should be able to choose "Visit the outdoor Bazaar" from there you can go anywhere in the city. It's imperative that you be able to move around in the city. Did you have the initial free movement around the city after the shipwreck?
And I don't mean to insult, but is your override, gui, and tlk folders empty? I play on a few Persistent Worlds and found that their files mess with SoZ. The "Always Summer Override" will actually remove some of the buildings in Samargol.
This really sounds like a tlk file issue. Please let us know.

It seems to work now. Must've been a glitch for that session only. After rebooting I get the all the options.
Glad it straightened itself. :D
Makes me wonder if there is a memory leak somewhere in the code.
