View Full Version : trial arena combat can't end

Playing an arcane trickster, I let Khelgar be my gladiator after the trial. He did the usual: beat up Lorne, pound potion of speed, run around until Lorne's never-death effects wear off, go back, grease Lorne. Then nothing. Lorne's laying there, Khelgar can run all over the arena without any effect but cannot exit, my character can initiate dialogue but can't move (though talking teleports her...it teleported her onto the arena floor), and this isn't finishing. In past games I remember a phase where I got to decide Lorne's fate, then the duel was over.

Is this bugged? Sure hope not.

It sounds like a script trigger isn't firing. But I've always fought Lorne with my own character so there might be another explanation. Hopefully someone who has used Khelgar can answer for sure.

Have you tried replaying the combat just to check?

I fought him once with Khelgar with no problems, but that was way back before MotB came out, I think. So, yes, it should work ... jkk, what is your game version?

It's patched current as of yesterday, includes MotB. I've done it both ways before (self or champion), never had a problem.

Doggone it. Tried twice from a save before entering the Merchant Quarter for the Rite of Tyr stuff. Same result: Khelgar finishes Lorne, Nasher pronounces that justice has been served, and Khelgar's stuck in the arena to wander to his heart's content within. Nothing else occurs, except that my main character is frenziedly trying to maneuver around the perimeter of the stands.

Tried with my main character planning to fight, then picking Khelgar at the last minute. Difference: that way I got the Shandra/Grobnar cutscene beforehand, but Khelgar still won and the bug still occurred. Going to keep experimenting with this until I figure out a way, since I really don't want to go back to a pretrial save. Next time I'm fighting it with my own character.

Okay. Had to do it with my own character (took two tries). Improved Mage Armor, Enervation, Cloudkill all went off, and I got the Lorne coup de grace scene and all went well. Do you think the bugged save is worth sending to Obsidian? Common factor: in each bugged situation I had Khelgar doing the fighting, and my main character was on the party list, spazzing trying to get into battle but blocked due to being in the stands. I don't think that's supposed to be the case, so I think the script failure happened early on. That's why I went after it with my own character--if she was the only party character in play, hopefully that spazzing wouldn't occur. It may not matter to anyone, but perhaps if someone else comes across this the forum will benefit from adding the knowledge to our virtual Candlekeep, here.

I done it both with my PC and Khelgar many times.

I have usually fought first with my PC to see how different builds do against Lorne, and then reloaded and let Khelgar fight him since I wanted the influence with him.

But that has been with patch 1.03 to 1.12. With and without MotB installed.

I haven't patched since, since there was problems with patch 1.13, and I can see others reporting about the exact same problem with the newest patch 1.21 without SoZ installed, on Bioware's official boards. As seen here:

For me it looks like when a new expansion comes out it screws the OC over. :D

Very nicely put! I like that thought. ;)
