View Full Version : NPC Elf Druid doesn't appear as scheduled?
Hi, I posted this on the Bioware Forum unofficial bug thread but thought I'd post here too to see if anyone has encountered it and/or found a work around:
Not sure if this is a genuine bug or caused by some uncommon plot thread (or not doing some minor thing) but as I understand it (from another forum) the Wood Elf Druid joins you as an NPC sometime in the 'travel' from Fort Locke (or perhaps Bandit Camp) to Highcliffe (i.e. when you get waylaid by Druegar)? I have played through this section twice now (plus done some extra travel trips), and made sure I completed all quests referenced in walkthroughs and such, and when I arrive at Highcliffe no Elf! BUT, I get dialogue from some Highcliffe NPCs about my party of 4, but my party is only 3 (Dwarf, Tiefling, and Me) due to the above bug. I have also gone back and travelled back and forth between Fort Locke & Hichcliffe a couple of times to see if it will trigger but no joy... :(
My game did crash once while I was at Forte Locke - but not during a travel sequence (I think it was actually my RAID array playing up so not a game bug), and I went back to last save and proceeded as normal... As mentioned I went back to an earlier pre-Fort Locke save as well and redid everything from then on to test and I eventually arrived at Highcliffe again, sans the Elf Druid, again!
At this point as I am not too far into it (and it's my first time through) I am intending to go back to the start and restart the game from scratch so I can replay the first half of Act I in the hope it will work correctly second time around - I don't want to go past this point to find out later the NPC was critical for something or I missed some side quest or whatever due to her absence... However if I get to Highcliffe with a completely new game/character and sans the Elf Druid again I guess I'll have to push on without her...? :(
TIA.
interesting. personally i haven't encountered this bug or problem. I did have a problem when i picked up Casavir, not allowing me to exit the level because i messed up and clicked him before the dialoge cinematic sequence took place... all i could say is that Yes, you will need her for other quests. Try from a previous load or a restart, maybe even when your at Fort Locke there are 3 exits to the world map to take, one right there in the Fort, 1 where you came in from picking up Khelgar and met Neeshka, and another one along the right side of the map that goes around the Fort on ground level through a pathway. Try that pathway, you should get her from there... If not and it says that you are suppose to have her with you, IE: "your party of 4" and you only have 3 total...
hit your '~' key for the console screen and type 'DebugMode 1'
then type in 'rs kr_roster_edit' and add her to your party. Be careful when doing this, don't add anyone that you haven't met yet... it could mess up the game.
Thanks W - couple of good tips... I must confess I hadn't got around to looking at the Debug commands, hadn't thought about adding her that way... I also hadn't noticed the 'third' WMT marker at Forte Locke so I might go back to an old save tonight and try that just to see if it does make a difference...
I'm really surprised that if she is semi-critical/important that it is possible to get to Highcliffe at all without meeting her...?
well, at the beginning she's not that important just a crazy druid that follows you around and turns into ferrets when you get into combat..lol... but later on there is some side quests concerning her. and even the corruption in the Vale of Dead Men, or Meredelain(sp?) which is where the "King of Shadows" is all shacked up in.. but personally other than these side quests concerning her, i never had her in my party because I was a ranger and could do everything she could cept she has more spells

Yeah - whenever I have played BG, IWD, NWN, and now NWN2 forthe firs ttime I like to try and make sure I encounter and at least pick up for a short time all or at best as many as possible of the NPC's to make sure I don't miss possible quest and action options due to their absence, etc... Not to mention getting a feel for how they fit my play style! :)
Still would have thought the NPC appearance would be a "hard coded" event and not prone to a variable or whatever...
I'm not sure of the technicality of the encounter is via coding.. but i do know that there is 2 cinematics that will happen, seeing her watching you... once in the Mere, when you go in to retrieve the first shard, and again when you enter into Fort Locke... after that, she's suppose to show up while traveling to Highcliff, so she can show you a "safer and quicker" way through the forests.

I only got 1 of the graphics clips - the first one when you initially go to the ruins in the Meer... Didn't get one entering Forte Locke (both times) - however both times I did the same sequence when I arrived (walked up road to find Tiefling, then straight around into fort - i.e. didn't go over to Galen the Merchant first before entering fort)... Maybe it's tied to doing both the external things before entering the Fort? Or maybe there's a placeholder that doesn't completely cover the Fort entrance and I've managed to skirt around it or something?
If you just type in the DebugMode 1 code, while activated it will show you all the encounter spots on the ground. You can try that to see if there just happened to have been one you missed...*shrug* but know that this is a HUGE spoiler and will ruin the surprises in the game.. so only use if you have to. then turn it off by typing DebugMode 0... or just exit the game and restart, it will reset debugmode so you don't see the encounter spots anymore :P
Yeah I might do that - as you say it can be a spoiler but I have played the Fort Locke area twice already (and may play it a third time to try and resolve this) so using debug to see all the placed objects, etc, in the Fort Gateway and immediately outside is probably not a silly thing to do prior to entering the Fort... If the graphics clip triggers then I can save game and as you say do a reload to continue from there...
Cheers.
It's probably a bug. These encounters aren't activated by something you do, but by the point you are in the game. From what I've read on this forum and others, I'm finding that there are several of these minor bugs that seem to hit ranomly. Depending on your character and what order you do things. And most of these things are just minor issues but can be frustrating. I'd try it once or twice more. And if that doesn't work, use debug. The new patch is coming in a couple of days. You could wait for that. See if it's in there.

Yeah - but I'm impatient... Need the patch though regardless - just about blew myself to pieces at weekend casting Fireburst for the first time in the middle of a fight with about 50% damage already!! (Was playing in D&D Hardcore mode - not that that should change the caster's immunity with that spell of course though).
;)
Ya, I hear you. I wouldn't want to wait either. Get too impatient.:) I'm sure it's a bug though.

W you were spot on with the last comment above - it's that 3rd exit around to the right rear of the Fort - it triggers the video clip and once that happens Elanee appears when you next try to travel to Highcliffe... Obviously it's a cascade thing, the video clip has to trigger first, otherwise if you go to Highcliffe before it does Elanee doesn't appear...
So it's not a bug per se, more an issue with the design/logic, since that third WMT is the one you are the least likely to use there's a reasonable possiblity some players (like me) won't trigger the Elanee cinematic (the previous 2 times I played the Fort Locke area I never used it once for outgoing travel, using the WMT inside the Fort all the time)...
Harks back to the days of BG and if you didn't use each exit at least once you wouldn't always see all possible areas to travel to...
Much happier camper, thanks team...
