View Full Version : How to bargain with Mephasm for stat boost?
Whats the trigger? Anyone knows?
I found that usually you have to have acquired the Sword of Gith first.
Recently bargained for stat boost item. Didn't have sword of Gith yet. Mephasm offered me the blind trade and took the Captains Spear, instead! Maybe he just wants a REALY good weapon?

Actually he just want the weapon you equipped the last couple of times entering Crossroads Keep.
I don't know how many times you have to equip the same weapon but it is in the 3-10 times area.
I have had no problems getting him to accept I.E. a +1 weapon or the Neverwinter Ceremonial Sword (which can't be sold anyway).
It's so not worth it. A +3 stat item, even one you don't have to equip, is completely outdated by this time. If you don't already have +6 or +8 stat items dripping from you, then you didn't bother to craft anything.

That's a matter of taste.
Personally I do the bargain and get a stat boost to a Ability Score I wouldn't improve otherwise by crafting or buying an item.
I.E. improving my WIS or CHA when I'm a fighter. Can't hurt can it?
Plus the History Feat is kind of cool, from a roleplaying aspect. Well of course if you don't play a paladin or other sissy limited by their alignment.. :D
I wanna know why you get points of chaotic for bargaining with a Devil (who are always Lawful)?
Yeah, but can't you get that same feat by bargaining with the Mephasm tokens from the book? And honestly, I thought those items were much better than the +3 orb. By this time, I've crafted stuff to increase ALL my stats (of course, I usually play a wizard, so nothing is really an unimportant stat. Wis, maybe, and Str, but carrying capacity is nice, as is extra will saves. Cha for conversation skills, Con for HP, Fort save and Concentration, Dex for AC, ray attacks and Reflex saves, and Int...well, I'd be stupid not to)
Incidentally, DON'T take money...the items can be sold for much more money than Mephasm gives you (I think it's always 5000 gold; chump change by this point!)

I can see your point, but 5000 gold is more than you could sell the "bits" of the token for. If you've already got all three items, and you still have enough bits to make more tokens, you might as well! Personaly, I stop bargaining once I've got the feat.

Yes. You get the Feat when you have bargained 3 times as D.0.a mentions.

:wtf: You obviously have not met Jacob Laustsoul, (my Pally for Dawn of Time).
Arrogant yes, Pompous maybe, overbearing certainly...sissy no. :D
In pnp, you can have a lot of fun if you follow the paladins code technicaly. As my Half-Orc paladin Thrusk the Clean will tell you (ok, your not allowed to start a bar fight...)!
However, in NWN(1 & 2), paladins are quite borring. Warlocks all the way! }:D
