Saving - Loading Time

My program takes almost a minute to either load or save. Is this standard with the program, a bug or just my system? I'm running Vista Home Premium , Intel Dual Quad CPU at 2.4 GHz, 4 Gig RAM, and 500 Gig HD. It takes so long to get started or to recover if killed; it makes the game almost not worth playing.

That sounds a little sluggish to me. I'm running Windows XP SP2 with a 3.4 Ghz Intel, 2 gigs of ram and a (wait for it) 80 GB hd (yeah yeah, I KNOW it's small) - my load times are definitely no worse than that and probably quicker - especially on save restores.

When's the last time you defragged your hard drive? I defrag mine at LEAST once a week. :D

I don't have half of your pc and my save time is instant! And it loads pretty fast too.

1) check for adware
2) viruses
3) spybot.

All of which can eat memory

Or if none of these are the issue. I'd reinstall the game. You could have corrupt files.

Do you have both NWN2 and Motb? The install is quirky. To run properly. the main NWN2 has to be installed, then MoTB, then patch for updates. If you install MoTB after updating NWN2 it can get very buggy.

You may have done all these things. Just trying to rule problems out.

Defrag. Definitely defrag.

It also depends on the Campaign/Module too... some areas in the OC are larger and do take up more time to load, although not THAT long. Saving should be near instantaneous... it takes more time to think of what to name the save game than it is actually saving it. And a quicksave is negligible as well.

If a defrag doesn't help, look at what you got running in the background. For example, if your AV program is actively scanning, or that Vista firewall is being a pain in the ***, you may have to tweak those settings. If you have Diskeeper and have it to "Set it and forget it", that might degrade performance too. And lastly, if you are downloading porn at the same time, that probably would have an adverse effect as well (erhm, not that I'd know first hand... I read it someplace).

If you have trouble with Vista itself, you can go to a site like www.tweakguides.com and download the Vista Tweak Guide... I use the XP one and I totally squeezed out more power out of my Pentium 4 with it. It give you tips on how to optimize the OS, and there are also guides for gamers and for video cards as well.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 32 bit, and I was having slow loads and saves until I defragged. It took a long time to defrag a terabyte but it was worth it.

btw...downloading pictures of kittens while playing will also slow things down, (not that I do, just read about it someplace) heh heh
