Finished the Trial and lost. Completed the Rite of Tyr. Arrived at the arena to face Lorne in combat. Is there something I need to do to initiate combat. Everyone just stands around. If I go into the arena, the guard lights the passage, but still nada. What am I missing?
1.11, just downloading latest, hopefully this will fix it!?!
updated to 1.12 no change, just standing in the middle of the arena waiting.
I do not see Grobnar in the stands, was hoping to get a buff song, maybe glich?

There should be a cut scene where you face off against Lorne before the combat actually starts. It sounds as though the script that should trigger that isn't firing for some reason. The patch won't fix that - as the script works fine for most people. All I can suggest is to remove any third party haks and custom content, and try reloading from an earlier save. You MIGHT have to back up to a much earlier save before you even start the trial.

Thanx for the reply!
Do not Hak(?), never cheat in gaming.
I let Khelgar champion for me and this solved the problem. I still do not know why "I" couldn't get the cutscene with my main character.
I did notice something though, on my sidebar, where my party member faces are, there was a strange icon. It showed an all black character with back turned walking away, like the movement icon, but in the party member section, and the background in the little sqaure was reddish/purple with yellowish lines like a web!?! Do you know what this means? Grobnar is not around at the Flagon, does this mean he's lost at one of the last places I was? I think I lost him after checking in to go to the trial. This is weird, but may be normal.
Love the site and the game. I played NWN 1 a lot, and of course was originally a PnP player. Never did play Baldurs Gate, but played a lot of Diablo. Glad I finally purchased NWN2. It is great.

Hak files aren't necessarily cheating - some of the more common haks are TonyK's AI and Kaedrin's PrC pack. The problem with some haks is that they can often cause problems with game scripts.

HOWEVER, from the sounds of it, you probably have been hit with a common bug - where a summoned familiar icon gets fubared. It arises when a summoned creature is present during an area transition. THAT should have been solved with the latest v1.12 patch iirc.

In addition, if Grobnar has gone missing it sounds likes you ALSO got hit with the "corrupted .ROS file" bug. That MAY also be related to the summon familiar bug. TO solve the corrupted .ROS file you need to find a save game from BEFORE the trial where Grobnar still shows up. In the saved game folder for THAT game, there should be a Grobnar.ROS file. Simply copy that file from the earlier saved game to the saved game folder where Grobnar does NOT appear. THAT may be the reason why the face off cutscene script doesn't fire for your PC. The game is expecting to find Grobnar before you enter the arena to initiate a cutscene there and when THAT doesn't fire, the subsequent pre-combat face off with Lorne won't fire either.

Glad that things got squared away with the combat, but you should check to see if Grobnar is available when you have an option to change out party members. If he isn't, you'll likely find that certain future cut scenes won't fire for you either.

Unfortunately I do not a save that recent. I will muddle through and see if he "pops" back in again :-)
Thanx again for the help!

You can use any version of Grobnar.ROS before the trial.

Hope it works out for you. Good luck. :D

Actually you don't even have to use a .ros file from the same game you are playing right now, any .ros file will work. If you are missing a companion it will break any cutscene that the companion is in, so it is highly recommended that you repair the file. If you have a previous play through you can copy his .ros file from that play and it will work, you might have to use console to adjust the level of him, because he will be at whatever level he was in that game.

As far as the trial went, you should have had a cutscene with Grobnar talking to you just before entering the arena and since he is not available it broke the scene and messed up the fight. When you had the dwarf fight for you he doesn't get that scene and so you could continue with the game until next time.

Great help, thanx!

The only way to change party members is by going to the sunken flagon, or Xroads Keep (I assume, haven't got quite that far yet), right. This is a pain with no quick travel, unless I am missing something......

Yeah, that and the console way, but I am not familiar how exactly to do that with the console.

Ok, and remember you can always obtain a fresh and uncorrupted ROS file by just starting a new game and saving the game as soon as possible in a new slot.

Then it is just a matter how to re-level and re-equip the companion in question.

How to re-level a companion?
Note his current XP number. Select him or her and make sure his/her face in the selection window.
Open console and type in:
debugmode 1
givexp -XP number above.
resetlevels
givexp XP (your current total XP)
Level up as usual.

that's with MotB installed ... without MotB installed, commands might be case censitive ... :D, e.g.: DebugMode:cool:

How to re-equip a companion?
For crafted equipment, just craft it again. If you are missing ingredients, spawn them in via console.
For any other equipment, use the console to spawn it in.:D
