View Full Version : Ending??? WHAT ENDING???
Ending??? WHAT ENDING??? During my use of the walkthrough, Lurchman said that the ending was lame. There is NO ending. I have agreed with L-man on most of the things that he has posted and have appreciated his help... however... THIS is not even worthy of calling it a lame ending... I am not sure there is a disparaging enough term for it without resorting to the foulness that an "ending" like this deserves. One thing that I will say is this... the storyline writers GOT LAZY!!! I hope they were docked or had their salaries reduced for producing this doo-doo-pee-pee-ca-ca of a non-ending... hell, what happened to the dwarves??? Or the Lizard goofballs??? Give us a better ending... I am considering contacting the game creators to make clear that they need to do it right if they do it again. What does everyone else think about this? I am rather heated up about this because of the 40 bucks this doo-doo-pee-pee-ca-ca ending cost me.

You find out what happens in the sequel...
I too was very unimpressed with the ending. Thank God I have a very vivid imagination, and filled in the blanks. heh heh

It's obvious they left the ending open for MotB. As I said before, I would've been pissed if I didn't know the sequel was coming. Fortunately I had just downloaded MotB the week before.
Did Neverwinter Nights 1 have a solid ending, or was it like NWN2? I actually never played it.
IIRC NWN1 gave the standard closing...save the world and such, I could be wrong though, it has been about 3 years since I played anything other than fan made mods.
NWN1 OC: Kill the final boss, save the world, take the portal out to save yourself, too. :D
SoU: Kill the final boss, save the world, crash into the desert, fate unknown. :D
HotU: Confirms that you survived the crash in SoU, provides multiple quite satisfying endings.
When I first finished NWN2 OC, I was very disappointed with the ending, too. My first thoughts were to shelve the game and leave it there to collect dust. The worst thing for me was that it reminded me of the ending in Gothic I. Needless to say, since then I have played the NWN2 OC 20+ times. :D
I agree the OC ending was just horrible. :D Haven't seen the MotB yet, but I sure hope it is better ... :D

The ending is bad without MotB (which i haven't played yet).
I personally didn't think the ending of the OC was really too bad ...
The OC ending moves the Player into MotB, and that's fine story-wise, but it could have been polished to make the transition easier on the eyes.(and ears!)
When it came out, the game was bug-ridden and the patching process was BAD(I shelved the game until it worked better) but it all got fixed now (and the patching continues with v1.12 coming out soon).
The requirements were high for what the game offers as far as visuals are concerned. I for one was not surprised, since a majority of games come out filled with bugs and get fixed later. Seems like a trend in PC games.
Are Publishers not talking to Developpers to get a realistic release date and therefore games come out unfinished? Forgive me, I don't know much about how release dates are chosen, so I'm assuming much.
Perhaps Obsidian needed more time for a better ending and it was time they didn't have?
Great game otherwise, I'm playing 3 chars through the OC at the same time + 1 in MotB.

I still call it a cheap ending. Because it forces you to buy the sequel to find out what happens. Or else your character simply dies, never to be found.
Think of the ending to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" or any one of those Chinese movies that were really popular in the U.S. afterwards (Hero, House of Flying Daggers, etc). It leaves you with the feeling of "WTF was THAT?"
Same with the OC.
If you don't play MotB, then all the hard work you put into the OC, all the long tiring journeys through the orc canyons and the fire giants, all the work into getting 100% for Crossroads Keep... is gone. A waste. All the emotional investment you put... all the dreams and goals you had in mind for your character, destroyed, much like a drunk driver killing your only child before he/she graduates from the 6th grade.
Ok, maybe not as bad as that, but you get the picture.

Yep, but I guess back then a cheap ending was needed, since the game had to rush out to the stores ... It is also a very convenient ending for the devs ...

Yep, and I agree, "WTF?" was exactly my feelings when I finished the OC for the first time.
But for a game to drag me back in, despite the initial frustration over the ending, and despite all the patches that fix things, but brake other things, it must be doing something right. :D

Well, the ending for MotB is a little better... you get some resolution, and it of course leaves the generic "but that is for another tale for another time" disclaimer at the end, in case they want to put out another expansion...
I just finished MotB twice (I replayed from a save point but made other decisions)... and I must say, that was some incredible story telling... sure, there are the bugs... there are the criticisms that it's a Monty Haul adventure... but the whole storyline was incredibly thought-out and designed... very original (at least to me), fairly canon, and the decisions you make throughout the game follow you to the end.
If there's a sequel to MotB, excellent. But if it ends here, I'm fine with that...
I still haven't played MOTB... :( I have it though. Just haven't got around to it...

Anyway, Fletch... what did you mean by "fairly canon"? Did you mean the lore in-game was faithful to the rest of Forgotten Realms? Because NWN games are - as far as I know - still not established as being canon in Forgotten Realms. In order for it to be canon they would first need to establish a definite gender, alignment, and ending for the cannon. It would also need to be part of the other literature. This was done with KotOR in the Star Wars universe - with novels referencing Revan as redeeming himself, being a male light-sided character and falling in love with Bastilla, helping her redeem herself, and finally killing Malak and saving the Reupublic.
Note I am not trying to criticize, I am just curious... has NWN finally been made established canon? I have a thing for canon and consistency. For example... if a show or game is based off a movie I liked (Or vice versa), but is not canon, I most likely will not watch or play it since it never even happened in the story. NWN was an exception to me because I'm not really into Forgotten Realms or D&D in general.
For myself, I haven't even been able to complete the game because it's bogged itself down so much with its 50 on-screen characters that my player can barely even move, much less issue commands or scroll down to find Khelgar. And I'm supposed to do what, destroy indestructible statues? Kill Kings of Shadows to make the statues destructible? How? How?
Dumb.
