View Full Version : Commander of the Keep-Suggestions-problems-solutions
After the suggestion of the moderator, im creating this thread about the running of the keep in order to be easy for all users to post info for the keep here.
So im making the start. U can call deekin in your keep. U can call jacoby from the fort to your keep. And my problems now: i called jacoby and he sais he needs ore. Ive found some ore, but how can i make him use it?And he also says that i should talk to a local merchant...Any fancy ideas?
here's my experience with that... both jacoby and the armorsmith you got from Highcliff need ore...and i'm guessing that the construction guy may be tied to this as well... there are 2 NPCs, one from Old Owl Well, and one from Port Llast, that are miners but looking for jobs... once you have the keep you go back and ask them to come work for you... once you have them at your castle, you have to find ore deposits in caves, mines, etc and tell them about it so they can mine it...
so far i've only found 2, one in the mines near Ironfist camp and the other in the Duskwood cave... and upgraded my men's armor once and weapons once... there's a 3rd deposit i found in chapter 3 when you search for the wendersnaven, i think...
you just gotta go around the areas and look for giant rocks or what looks like a possible deposit, you'll know when you hit one, you'll get an experience message in your chat box and it tells you to go back and tell the miners of the location. they will go off and get the ore, and when you return to them, they give you some money of the profits and an ore sample(used for weapon/armor crafting if you wish)..
ore deposit in ember: fastest entrance is from Duskwood, enter the cave..look in the back rooms near where the spiders were, walk around the walls, you'll find it eventually... just gotta spend some time moving really slowly... might even be helpful, or not, if you have khelgar and the gnome bard with you, as they are both of races that dwell beneth the surface.. the bard is a rock gnome.. and every time i've found a deposit, he's been with me...*shrug*
Ironfist camp deposit: in the back corridor, walk along the walls, if i remember right, it's in a small area that leads nowhere.. but i do know that it's not as deep as the room that had the bugbear leader...
3rd deposit in act 3: i'll get back to you on that one...
Look whathappened to me. I found ore in the ironfist clane quest in the cave.It gave me 50xp. Later in the keep i had neither armrsmith/weaponsmith.(Cause i didnt now).So i went to the miners and said to them come to the keep. From the dialog they sais that they re coming. But they arent around the keep now or the places that i found them...So im thinking -> wrong order in actions means problem? or what?
hmm... that's interesting.. probably wrong order in actions... here's a basic outline of the keeps' outside areas...
farm outside your keep, there should be 4 NPCs in this zone you can talk to... 1) Olsen, i think, that you pick up from the Harbor.. 2) wolf's minion, near the world map exit.. and 3 & 4) are the 2 miners from Old owl well and Port Llast
Courtyard: Have the construction guy rebuild the smithy shop, merchant shop, and the inn... Smithy shop: build this, then ask the armorsmith/weaponsmith to come to the keep and they will appear outside this shop when you return to the keep.. Merchant shop: build this, then go back to the merchant quarter, Deekin the kobold needs a shop, ask him and he will accept... Inn: once this is built, the NPC from the Flagon that is behind the bar, will be there running it, you can also find Neeshka, Khelgar, and Bishop here when not partied with you...Elene can be found between the smithy shop and merchant shop, standing next to rocks...
The church and tower cannot be build until you hit Act 3... then you have a choice, either turn the ruined church into, well, a church of tyr, or you can turn it into a monastary for monks.. The tower can either be used in 1 of 3 ways, guard tower of the Nine, a mage tower, or a gambling/base area for the fence(stolen goods) merchant dude in the keep's mainroom... choice is up to you, i chose mage tower.. lol.. who couldn't use more magic?
locationing of the farm area's NPCs.... i forgot to expand on this.. wolf's minion is right as you zone in from anywhere else than the keep... walk up the path and there's the wall and some rocks, the miners should be here.. to the right from there, near the first farm house is Olsen the farmer... then the keep's entrance..

Very well.I'll check what u said as soon as possible. Thanks
inside the keep:
As soon as you walk in, there's Kana and the other chick in the middle of the room. to the immidiate right upon entering the room is the Fence merchant guy. In the far back of the room behind Kana, is Torio(if you choose to let her live), there's also one of wolf's minions and a greycloak. Kana will give you advice on the keep, assignments, troubles, etc. Torio will give advice on possible special recruits for the keep, such as an archmage for a mage's tower, etc, and give you some other side info about lusken, the war, etc... To the right is a hall way with Qara, that leads to your personal suite and the library. to the left is the west wing and basement.
Library: This is where you can find Aldanon(sp?) and Sand.
Personal Suite: nothing really in here, cept a book on the desk to read.
West Wing: If you found Guayven of the Road in Ember during your investigation, he should be in the first room on your left.. the other 2 rooms are just there, and the far back room on the right is the War room, where you can find Casavir.
Basement: Down here, you can find the Blade golem, the gnome bard, Ammon Jerro, and the Spider from duskwood. You can talk to them all for info.. There's also crafting benches right behind the Golem. and one of wolf's minions..
more to come, when i get the chance...
So i went to the miners and said to them come to the keep. From the dialog they sais that they re coming. But they arent around the keep now or the places that i found them...So im thinking -> wrong order in actions means problem? or what?
From my experience, the order in which you do things is irrelevant. I recruited the miners in Old Owl Well and Port Llast even before I had a keep, and I only found Jacoby the blacksmith in act 3, but they all showed up where they're supposed to.
The problem could be that the miners appear outside the keep, not inside, in a place where you never think of looking if you keep using Wolf's minion to get from the path outside to the courtyard inside (and vice versa). Take a look, they should be there.
Other things I can think of to add to the list are sergeants: there are three you can recruit; Katriona from Old Owl Well, the Luskan mercenary working for the new Ambassador (after the trial) and Light of Heavens, whom you have to duel three times before she will work for you; you can meet her first in Port Llast, then in the Merchant quarter, then outside your keep, where the miners are.
Also, about the weapon and armoursmiths - make sure you get them by the beginning of act 3, during the course of that act you will lose access to Highcliffe and Fort Locke so you will be unable to recruit them at a later stage.
Ore locations update:
k so here's locations that i've found for ore so far in act3
Wendersnaven search: Strange Clearing-
if you are looking at the corpse on the ground, and it's to the left of you, look to the rightside almost directly across the map, there's an ore location here..
Mt. G: this is the location that you go to when you go to retrieve the belt of ironfist from the fire giants. as you go up this mountain there are 2 spots in the outside area. One is up around the right side of the map, as if your going to fight the dragon. and 1 at the main camp with the NPC's label'd "prisoners", the ore mine will be at the very back of the camp. you'll see a group of three giants in the back, possibly have boulders on them if you found that area to push them over before hand.. well, look at that, then look to the left of that, there is a small alcove with some sparkling rock..that's the second one....
Red dragon lair: in here is a bunch of goodies... an uber tough dragon to kill, tons of loot, and at the very back of the area behind the dragon is another ore spot.. again sparkling rock... and if you choose to loot the loot stash, pick look around for magic items... when you return to the keep after this encounter.. Kana will tell you that the guards and peasents went out to recover the stash and brought it back, but was ambushed by bandits and they only got away with some chests of items..*shrug* anyway, congratulations you just added 170,000 gold to your keep coffers
Dragon valley: Ammon sends you on a quest to find the spirit dragon who fought with the King of shadows, well, in this area is another ore spot... when you first come into the big opening with the dragon's heart, the ore deposit will be in the far back left..looks like some huge rocks with sparkling deposits..
so far that's all i've been able to find... can't remember if i found one at the Lusken Hosttower emissary encounter or not, if so just look for the huge sparkling rocks...lol.
with all the deposits that i've mentioned thus far from act 2 and 3, will upgrade your weapons to the best that jacoby can make, and armor is scale male... the armorsmith will have some ore, but only enough to make some, not all of your soldiers.. maybe a trick here is to keep your guard force small until this point... train them up and get them in a "Very High" morale... then organize the men and send your sergents out to recruit... zone out of the keep, go check some other stuff, come back you'll have recruits, repeat until Kana says that you have more recruits than you can handle with current training standards without slipping... at this point organize the men, have them train and garrison the fort. keep your sergeants patrolling and recruiting. after a few days the guard force will be fully trained... you can either send them out for more recruits... or have them patrol roads and/or surrounding areas...
as for more ore locations i'll keep looking.....
Other things I can think of to add to the list are sergeants: there are three you can recruit; Katriona from Old Owl Well, the Luskan mercenary working for the new Ambassador (after the trial) and Light of Heavens, whom you have to duel three times before she will work for you; you can meet her first in Port Llast, then in the Merchant quarter, then outside your keep, where the miners are.
also note that Bevil, from West Harbor will eventually join your ranks as a sergeant. you'll have to talk to him a few times to get him to feel better. and you can't directly control his tasks once trained. but he's a sergeant none the less..
Light of Heavens, is also the sister of a dancer that you can pick up from the Merchant quarter when they are fleeing the city in act3... she'll be dancing near the Moonstone mask place.. talk to her, she'll come to the keep and dance in the inn... **makes morale go up for the keep.. and extra money
How did u get a fort?I killed Lorne but still I have nothing.Nasher lied to me damn !
Feats from the keep:
when you gain the keep, you'll get the "Captain of the Keep" feat.. also if you choose to run an Evil character and run your keep like a "tyrant" lol... you'll get the "Dread lord of the keep" feat, but to achieve this you gotta up taxes, lowest recruiting requirements, etc..if you do this morale will be low, and recruiting efforts may suffer..
recruiting:
once you get your armor and weapons upgraded, morale will increase to very high...assigning Katriona to recruiting, and organizing the men to recruit will return alot of results in recruiting. High morale troops recruiting bring in quality, more reliable soldiers... once you have alot of recruits, organizing the men to train and garrison the fort will train mass recruits to standards. the more soldiers you have, the more greycloaks you'll see around the keep/farm/courtyard...
weapons and armor upgrades:
look at my above postings for ore locations for your miners to mine. the more you find, the better weapons and armor you can get.. with what i have listed so far, their weapons are the best you can get them with Jacoby... and armor probably has one more upgrade, but you'll need to find more ore..still working on this.. also as you upgrade the armor, you'll notice the soldiers around the keep wearing the new stuff... kinda cool
NPCs to recruit:
this is a tricky subject and one that's totally up to you on how you want to run your keep. there's the 2 smiths, deekin from the merchant quarter, the fence merchant inside your keep's main room(or in the tower if you choose to make it for him as a hideout), there's also a drow merchant that torio suggests, you can find her in the Fire Giant's camp... once you kill them, you can choose to have her or not, but she will tell you that she's heard of the keep and that she might tarnish it's reputation because she's a drow... there's the sergeants for your troops, Katriona, Bevil, Light of Heavens, and that ex-lusken guy(personally didn't get this guy), magic items merchant within the tower(if you decide to make it a mage tower), church merchant(if you remake the church) or probably a merchant for monk stuff if you make it into a monistary...There's a dancer in the merchant quarter you can get for the inn to boost morale.
Tower:
3 options you have here. Torio tells you that there are 3 possible things you can do with this. Make a mage tower, let the fence merchant use it, or let Sir Nevalle use it... if you want the mage tower, tell torio to look for an archmage, soon you'll see one standing outside the tower, he'll tell you he's there for the tower but you need to build it and he'll return... if you want the fence merchant there, talk to him and ask him why he wants it... or for Sir Nevalle, talk to him, he'll tell you that he wants to make it a base of operations for the Nine. once you've made your choice, go to the construction guy and tell him what you want to do with him... note that once you choose you can't go back..
Church:
Torio tells you that you can remake the church for a priest of Tyr that's interested. **this is the same priest that's in Castle Never when you rush to the guard room with Sir Nevalle in the begining, when you go with him to get knighted** or you can make it into a monistary for monks, sorry i don't have the details for this as of yet..

do you have to find guayven somewhere and recruit him, or is the fact that i met him during the investigation enough?
along your quest lines, you'll find him in a few places.. such as the old dwarven home, when clearing the bugbears, in ember, and i'm thinking another place as well.... as long as you see him at ember, he'll tell you that you will be seeing him again.. IE: in your keep... and there's a few places afterwards that you'll go to that you will get an experience message saying that guayven will like to know about this place.. go back and tell him.. eventually you will get a History feat called "pathstalker" nothing special really, just means that you've followed in his footsteps and explored the world.. lol

well the thing is that i cant find him in my keep, i think above said he would be in the west wing, i didn't see him in there... though i am only doing the bugbear thing now...
the other places you see guyvan are at old owl well, twice, on your way to the first orc camp and then you save him on the way up to the second.
hmm, bugbear is a word in the Firefox spell checker but orc isnt.
and whats with the time thingy and the percentage...
and for that matter why is it that ive given my miners ore locations and theve come back with samples for me, and then when i go to my smithy they both say that they need ore shipments... how long will it take... admitantly they have only goten the second one, but i gave them the first at 15% (now 25%) time.
and you are suposed to start with enough to get basic weapons and armor arnt you... (i did that before i got the ore deposits)
Guyvan not being there: My guess is that you haven't found him in all the locations throughout the world. Once you do, he should show at the keep.
Time and percentage: In the Status of the Keep report that you recieve from Kana, There's a percentage number.. when you have done everything you can with the keep, patrols, recruit, and are far enough into the main quest line will you reach 100%. When you get to 100%, Kana will tell you that everyone is preparing for war, and there's nothing else to do but stay on our present course. And like she said, there's nothing really else to do, special missions or side quests in relation to the Keep itself. All you can do is gather supplies for yourself and companions to defend the keep, and the end game battles.
I'm not really sure as of yet, which miner is best for the keep.. I know the woman will give you a sample as well as some money. that's who i mainly used when reporting ore locations. The other guy ended up getting pissed because i never had work for him and he left. *shrug* with all the ore locations that i've listed in prior posts, allowed me to upgrade weapons 3 times and armor twice..

I found two more Ore locations when I first visited Old Owl well...if I recall it correctly they were in the first "Orc Tribe Area" (the one where you have to go into the Troll Cave and recover the Blastglobes). The first is at the end of the Troll Cave, right next to where you find the Blastglobes, and the other is inside the Orc Lair there...
By the way: If you press the Y-key (or might be Z-key on american keyboards) it will highlight anything that you can interact with, including chests and ore-deposits! Seems to me that some haven't found this feature yet...
hmm... i'll have to reload an old saved game to go back at look at these locations to verify... if so, then i'll have them added to the Ore Locations listed under "Crossroad Keep" section listed with the walkthrough and other info... thanks

z does ore locations as well? i have just been looking for the change in texture.
where else can i find quyven then? he is in ember, the orc camps...?
btw there is deposit in the ember well, near the rope.
Feats from the keep:
NPCs to recruit:
Bevil, ..
Hmm, cant find Bevil in the starting village.Any help?
Bevil just turned up in my Keep. Not sure when as he was standing to the left hand side as you go out of your Keep. I thought he was just a guard

well, thats alright i suppose, no guyven for me though. as long as torio gives me other names... so where do you find the luskan dog to recruit... and i think i read in this thread that the dancer girl was outside to moonstone mask, well i found her near the exit to blacklake.
and i'm having ore problems again, i just got the one from the fire giants lair and i the smiths act as if i havent... and do recruits ever become soldiers? even when the entire garrison is training at the keep they are only ever recruits.
oh and there is a merchant in the monastary, and i dont recommend it unless your pc is a monk, the abbot seems to want to teach stuff, but only to traveling monks, and khelgar doesn't count.
I have found the following ore veins:
- The troll caves, right past the blastglobe box.
- Bonegnasher lair western part
- Eyegourger lair level 1 a small dead end tunnel on the eastern part
- Eyegourger lair level 3 in the southern room where the undead are
- Ironfist clanhold in the northern dead end in the centre of the map
- The caverns under the well of Ember, right behind the rope
- The caverns under the well of Ember, in the vinicity of the exit to Duskwood
- Crossroad Keep tunnel enterance, in the middle room of the southeastern loop
- In your meeting with the new Luskan ambassador (the fat one)
- In the Wendersnaven northwestern area
- Mount Galardrym in the dead ended clearing southwest to the main camp
- Mount Galadrdym main camp northwestern part
- The red dragon's lair
- Road to Highcliff next to the enterance
- Nolanoth place, next to the enterance
- Nolanoth place, northwestern part
I do not think there is anymore in the game.
Guyven of the Road first appears back in Act I. And it seems as though he won't show at the castle unless you meet him back in the beginning. I know I met him in about 4 different placs before the Keep. He might not appear there unless you meet him in all these places. Your knowing him seems to progress each time.
and i think i read in this thread that the dancer girl was outside to moonstone mask, well i found her near the exit to blacklake.
yeah, i'm sorry on that misinformation. It's one of the problems when i'm typing it all from memory and away from the game to double-check.

When you got the ore location from the fire giants area, did you go back and tell the miners to get it? also, ore that you pick up from monsters or chests, does not count when sold to the smithys as ore for the armor and weapons...
Recruits will always be labeled as recruits in the Report from Kana. You start out with 50 Greycloaks. As they recruit and train the newcomers, kana/the report will say that they are trained but still call them recruits.
Noted about the monestary, I still need to go back and build this in my keep for info and knowledge to post into the section..
thanks arathalion...

Question about the ore. Do you have to go to each ore site individually and then to the miners or can you find all the ore first and then go to the miners with everything at once?
arathalion
11.24.06, 01:59
yeah i did, and ive noticed something... it seems that i kneed 3 ore deposits to upgrade stuff each time... ill have to go back and visit nolaloth
Can you find multiple ore locations, then report them to the miners? yes you can. In the event of the ore locations on Mt. G. when killing the fire giants, there are quite a few ore spots in this area alone.. you can get them all, then tell the miners about it when you get back to the Keep. :D

So far I have found quite an abundance of ore. Here are some of the locations that I have found. Currently, I have just started Act 3:
Caves between Ember and Duskwood. There are two ore deposits here. One near the Duskwood entrance of the caves (before the spiders). The other is in the Ember well. Look on the wall behind the bucket to find the deposit.
The patch of forest that you travel to as part of the Wendersnaven quest has an ore deposit. Look on the rocky wall behind the corpse of the Relentless Bard.
Behind the main camp of the fire giants is another deposit, as is a second in the lair of the Red Dragon.
I can also remember finding deposits in the Ironfist dwarves stronghold and the orc caves in Old Owl Well during Act 2.
Without having used any of the Act 3 ore that I have found, my Greycloaks have got 3 upgrades of weapon, and two of armour.
Perhaps a complete list of the ore deposits could be put together. I will certainly add any more that I find as I come accross them.
I got a quick question about the ore. After I get the miners over to my keep, do I need to revisit each of the ore locations in order for them to go to them? I was able to get the girl, can't remember her name, to go to one of the sites, but when I talk to her when she gets back I don't have the option to send her back out again. I've even tried to talk to the rude guy but he wouldn't go either. Is this something that someone else has encountered or is it just me? And if someone else has had the same problem, is it possible to get a workaround for this problem?
Thanks in advance,
If you had found multiple ore locations prior to talking to the miners, they will go out to all the locations found, since you last sent them out.. IE: you find 1 ore location, talk to miner and they go out... you go off questing, find 2 more ore locations, go back to keep and talk to miners again, they go out once but visit both locations...
they wont go out until you find a new ore location, go back and tell them.
ahh ok.. so they went out and visited all the sites that I found prior to me getting the keep and already mined them. Gotcha.. thanks for the info.
yeah i did, and ive noticed something... it seems that i kneed 3 ore deposits to upgrade stuff each time... ill have to go back and visit nolaloth
The amount of ore deposits you need for weapons increase with the quality...
ie. 1 ore for flimsy butter knifes
2 ore for good weapons
3 ore for best weapons
1 ore for flimsy butter knifes
LMAO :D
:D
I love that sig Wandaien
lol.. beware the angry anime stick dude, trying to open an unlocked door
I've got a problem. It has to do with the way my Greycloaks are enforcing the laws. kana tells me that they are to strict and it is causing "unrest" with the keep dwellers. She tells me this everytime I open up a dialog with her.. which is in turn stoping me from getting info on the special missions or any updates on the greycloaks.. I've looked through all of the options in the dialogs for a way to lax on the rules and found none. The only thing I can think of is when the guard got in trouble and how I responded to it.. Is that why unrest is starting? Even if it is.. there should be a way to fix it.. *sigh*

i got that a little towards the end, but that was cause i had increased the number of greycloaks i had.
dont think i had any civies in the keep anyway, some mearchants though. but on the report theyr moral just stayed average. so i dint care to much
working with the keep is a tricky thing, and entirely based on your decisions you make. Once a choice is made the only way to go back on it is to reload a prior save. It's hard to fix the unrest within ranks, perhaps you've worked them to hard, have them do something else(variety is good)... or maybe there's a few "entertainment" NPCs that you haven't gotten yet, that'll boost morale(IE: Dancer for the Inn found in Neverwinter merchant district.)
Personal Suite: nothing really in here, cept a book on the desk to read.
That isnt true. There is a desk that containes special bag, that reduces 100% of weight of items you put in it. But to open the desk you need special key. It looks like lokpick and its called Crosroad Keep key. You can find it somewhere in west wing of the keep.
I never knew that, thanks - I always wondered where the bag of holding was - that's worth getting next time I play through the OC.

yeah, that was posted before I found the bag of holding... if you check the Crossroads Keep (http://www.thieves-guild.net/index.php?pid=144) section to your left. In the locations section I put that it's there...
I have found all the NPC's, all the sergants and upgraded weapons and armors to best.
My men are trained to "best of the best"
My roads and areas have a very high security.
Neitherless to say, i've almost everything perfect.
But i do have some problems:
I'm pretty confident that i have found almost every ore in the game.
But about 3 ore findings after i've upgraded my weapons and armors to best, calindra tells me something like this: "This might just be what the foundary workers need. Go and inform them and they can create some new items". Or something like that.
Anyway, i've searched the whole keep for "foundary workers", but i can't seem to find any.
I think it might have something to do with mr veedle, because he keeps saying that he could improve the fortifications and the surounding areas, but he lacks resourses (it's chapter 3).
Any suggestions on this one?
Also, how do you improve the grey cloak civilty?
I have pretty much "best" or "very high" on everything, except the grey cloak civilty. How do you increase that?

Any suggestions on this one?
Also, how do you improve the grey cloak civilty?
I have pretty much "best" or "very high" on everything, except the grey cloak civilty. How do you increase that?
I've had the same question about the extra valuable ore found. I found several spots once my greycloaks were all upgraded..
(civilty) I wish I knew what I did to make it good, It was in the green each time i played. No clue exactly what I did to make it that way LOL Maybe someone else will come along with answers to these qyestions. I'm curious as well.

I have a question, what if you didn't find any ore veins in chapter 1. Is there any way to go back and find that ore?
Thanks!

no, you cant go back, however i think that it saves them so that you can just tell the miners that they are there.
I dont know if any one can help me with this but i recruitied the miners and orlen and they said they would be there. When i go to the farm they arnt there and when i go where they used to be they arnt there eather. Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?

Hi Chrono20
I don't know for anyone else. I had to leave and come back more than once for them to show up. I can't recall how many times exactly but no more than 2-3 times.
If this doesn't work than you have a bug maybe. Maybe someone else has more insight about this if after a couple times coming back, he doesn't show up.
Good luck
Liso
that seemed to do it i walked away and built some stuff in the keep then started my men on training when i came back out there she was.

and if you go back she should still be in the tavern at port llast
I advanced a bit in the 2nd chapter before getting Orlen to my farms. Now West harbor is lost and... how can this affect the keep? not having Orlen at my farm

Good question. I did not realize I could even get him to farm at the keep until my 3rd run through. I'm not sure if it has any true effect on the keep itself or not.. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this?

well, he is supposed to farm for you, so maby it limets the number of greycloaks you can have.
I actually have 50 greycloaks, 14 merchants and 0 civilians. It's kinda odd the last number
Maybe even comminity Civility?

Work on the roads and patrol the surrounding areas, also get the guy from West Harbor to work the farms to feed the people. :p You should start getting them after awhile...also don't tax them much if any.

Greetings!
I just recently got myself the miner NPCs in the keep and to my great bafflement, 6 of all the 12 ore deposits are back in areas only accessible in Chapter 1(I'm currently in the middle of Chapter 2). I don't think I've found the ore veins there, even thought their locations have been SEVERELY looted by my party and now I can't go back to fetch the ore. It seems there is no way to revisit these areas and the miners tell me I've found no ore whatsoever(I still haven't visited Chapter 2's ore deposits to "tag" them) so my guess is that I haven't "tagged" any ore veins in chapter 1 at all.
So, long story short: how many ore deposits does one need to be able to upgrade both the armor and weaponry of the Crossroad Keep Greycloaks to the max and does one need extra ore for creating special weapons for the party?
Thank you in advance:)

Good question. And greetings to you as well. :)
I really am not sure. I think I had most of the ore spots available up to the point I got the keep and all the npc's "miner, smithy, wep smith" etc. And I got upgraded twice. Then I had to find 3 more after that before they had enough supplies to make the "best" But I never counted them. On my new run I'm doing now, I guess I'll count them hehe :D

Answering these in reverse order. :)
Finding the ore veins will yield a minimal number of ingots from Calindra when you report new finds. If you want the mother lode (pun intended) talk to Jacoby (he's the weaponmaster you recruited). He had 25 ingots each of Adamantine, Mithral, darksteel, cold iron, alchemical silver and regular iron. That should be MORE than enough for your group. :)
Actually there are only 5 locations in chapter 1 and you should be able to find 3 more in chapter 2. There are 16 locations all told - 8 more in act 3. With the 8 ore locations from act 1 and 2, you should be able to do ALL the armor and weapon upgrades except for the last armor upgrade. For that one you will need to find the additional ore locations in chapter 3. Check with Edario and Jacoby and see if they will do the upgrades for you. If they won't then something got bugged when you went to the act 1 areas and those locations are not registered.
here are the act 1 and act 2 ore locations.
Chapter One: 5 locations all told
Dwarven scouts area (inside the Dwarven Clanhold)
Troll Cave near Bonegnasher lair (inside near the unstable blastglobes)
Bonegnasher lair
Eyegouger lair level 1
Eyegouger lair level 3
Chapter Two:
Well of Ember (directly behind bucket)
Crossroad Keep Escape tunnel
Duskwood cave (just past Kistral's room)
Okay - there IS a way to edit the game but it requires modifying your globals.xml file.
Make a save game of your current game. Exit the game. Go to the save game folder for that game and look for a file called globals.xml Copy that file to another folder to have a backup JUST in case this process doesn't work. :)
Now, open up the globals.xml file and look for this string - you might have to scroll down quite a ways to find it -
Look for THIS
- <Integer>
<Name>01_Mineral_Count</Name>
<Value>8</Value>
</Integer>
If this number is already 8, stop and do not procede. Your game is seriously bugged and the rest of this won't help. If it is NOT 8, then you probably did miss a bunch of the ore locations.
Since you've already gotten the keep you SHOULD have found 8 ore locations by now - and only the two in ember and duskwood caves would still be accessible. Go ahead and edit the number that appears below the mineral count to 8. Save the file. Restart the game. Load your saved game and talk to Calindra. Tell her you found the ore. She should run off to go take care of having the miners extract it. Go ahead and take care of some other business - have Veedle build something - and return to the farmlands. If Calindra has returned, you should be in business. Now go talk to Calindra - you'll get 8 ingots and 250 gp for each ore location. Now you should be able to talk to Edario and Jacoby to start working on those weapon and armor upgrades.
If this does NOT work, then you have a truly serious bug and I can't help.
Anyway, this should solve the problem for you.
BTW, it really does help to quote which game version you are using when reporting a bug. some of the more frequent bugs have been fixed with the latest 1.03 patch. :)
I think i found out how does THE FARM GUY affect... Unit's strength. I have it on LOW, and can't figure any other posibility
I had something happen in my second play through that I haven't seen anyone else mention yet.
I did a much better job on managing my money this time (thanks to all the nice advice I found here) so I was able to max out all the upgrades and rebuilding possible in CH2.
One of the times i visited Kana, she told me that there was a guy who wanted to establish a village at the keep. (He was called a Sheriff IIRC).
Had a bit of dialog about what the charter for the village would say. One of the things discussed was how many times a year they would pay taxes (used diplomacy to get them to agree to pay more often to keep the Greycloaks well funded).
Kana told me after he left that it was very important to patrol the lands to improve things while they were setting up the village or they would just leave.
Later the village headman came back again and offered a bunch of recruits for my Greycloaks.
I had upped my standards to only those fit and Kana told me some of the volunteers didn't meet those requirements.
Again I used diplomacy to only accept those who met the standards.
Funny thing is, Orlen is complaining that we need more peasants to till the land or we'll go hungry.
The only really good thing about your personal suite is the bag of holding in the table.
I found also that once you know where all the people to recruit are and you try to get too many too fast, it will crash the game. Usually it will do it during the transition back to the Keep because it gets overloaded with new information. It's much better to recruit, go to keep and repeat, rather than recruiting all at once and returning to the Keep.
My Keep with all my Minions. I cast enlarge for some added fun.

Yeah, but tha bag of holding is worth it. :)
Caduceus, I never had that problem with the game crashing due to recruiting. I recruited everyone all at once except for deekin and it worked fine.
OPT, I'm planning on adding a section on all of those dialogues / special events: including the "Ziffer" dialogues, Daerred and his merry band of fools, errr ...... adventurers, the Captains company and other similiar events in the next update to the Crossroad keep section. :D
Love Daerred's gang, especially the girl with the flower in her hair and Brother Maxil.. The whole thing reminds me of the first-level group you encounter in Abizigael's Enclave in BG2-ToB.

Just so you know, Daerred and his gang CAN come back a fourth time if you don't handle them properly. :D They're just a bit harder to recognize the last time.
Ah, I always treat them nicely. How could you be mean to the girl with the flower in her hair? I wish I could offer her a job at the Keep, and give them Bishop and Qara in exchange.

Orlen tends to whine a lot. :D Keep an eye on your security levels and the civility and morale levels - as long as they stay high or very high, you're fine. :)
*Of course* he whines. He's a farmer. Ever met an optimistic farmer? I thought not. ;)

Edit: Revised for latest content
I finally got the unit strength up to average.
I finished the circle of the mere part, ran into the greycloaks fighting the trolls and joined them in the fight.
perhaps that influenced the men's will to fight for their captain.
if that didnt do the trick, then perhaps putting Bevil on the patrol countryside training did the trick, since I visited Kana after doing these 2 things.
Might be that specific patrolling and pleasing Orlen ( peasant growth) has its impact on the unit strength as well.

Orlen has absolutely no effect on unit strength at all. The only things that affect unit strength are:
Level of Training
Weapon and armor quality
Morale
Elite status
Sergeants
Total Unit count
Patrolling will affect unit strength only if you patrol lands (not roads). Raising Land security will attract more volunteers and thereby increase unit count. :)
Hope that clears things up. :)

Something really strange happened with Special Mission.
At the end of act 2, my last turn according to the guide here I have the opportunity to send taxmen out earlier than one turn. Since it's convenient, I send them out with lightest tax, and mildest manner. that is turn 30.5?
Well, then, it's 52.5 before I hear from them again. Right after I send men away on UNdead Scout mission, and 10-12% since I sent men for Bugbear.
I experiment and let thing unfold until 90+ and not a peep out of those two group...
Dang! I will try to ignore this and play on a bit (47%) to see if things go back to straight on its own...
There's something to be said about leaving everything Keep related until Act3, just so we can do everything in one straight mini campaign. As it is, even if I want to reload it's too damn far back to do so...
