I seem to lose Khelgar after the Sky Mirror (yeah, all the way in act I... ). Luckily I have save games that are actually after the "bug" occurs (I had just leveled up, and I usually save the game before leveling up in case I change my mind about what I selected. I made it back to the inn with Khelgar, but the next day I thought I should have selected spells a bit differently so I went back). So I have lots of opportunity to try to experiment.

So I'm not too concerned about having to start over or anything, but check out this screenshot of Tamin packing some major heat!

Losing party members seems to be a problem in the OC. And scene changes look like the culprit. But it doesn't look like this is something Obsidian is in a hurry to fix. And at this late date probably won't.
As AI increases in games, the complexity of interactions increases. And it seems as the developers are having a hard time keeping up. Too many possible outcomes that aren't being fully covered. Probably the only thing that can be done about it is increase beta testing. Like the old saying; An infinate number of monkeys on an infinate number of typewriters, one will find your bug. LOL

Make sure that you do not have any summoned creatures in your party when you make the area transition - including familiars. If THAT fails to resolve the problem go a save game PRIOR to sky mirror and the problem, and look for the Khelgar_ROS.ros file in that save. Copy that file into the saved game folder for your current save. You may need to replace any new equipment that Khelgar acquired between those saves. :D

Yeah, I figured out that somehow Khelgar was morphing with Tamin, Qara's familiar (I notice that the AI use their pets now ever since the 1.10 patch). This was why it was holding a dwarven waraxe. So I had Qara unsummon it and moved on, and it seems to work now. I think it has to do with the position of the portraits, and for some reason Khelgar needed to go in the 3rd position, which was occupied by the familar.

Incidentally, I spent an hour fooling around and got screen shots of Tamin holding a quarterstaff, a torch, a war mace, and a crossbow. Too bad I didn't have a Greatsword on hand. I saved the bugged game so if anyone has suggestions as to what they would like to see Tamin holding, let me know. Bahahaha!

I just read through the Bioware NWN2 forum thread for the Patch Notes Preview for NWN2 Update 1.12

Its Indicated that it will be resolved in this update :
Rob MacInnis from Obsidian posted the following

"Two additions to the patch notes:

1. The Low-Light/Darkvision aura around the DM will no longer be visible to players in a Multiplayer game.

2. Fixed an issue where companions were replaced by familiars/animal companions during transitions.

That closes out the patch notes for the 1.12 patch. Final patch notes will be released with the patch."

Thought you guy may want to know.
