Choosing a Patron Deity is crucial in the Forgotten Realms. If you don't want your character end up in the Wall of the Faithless under the watch of the God of the Dead, Kelemvor, we strongly suggest to choose your deity carefully.

If you should have any questions regarding a deity, please refer to our detailed discription of the deities to your left. If that doesn't answer your question feel free to post it here.

Also take in consideration to choose from the right palette of cleric domains, also found on the left menue, if you're thinking of rolling up a cleric!

Hello everyone. This may seem like a stupid question to some, but I'm really not all to familiar with the D&D information. (it's been like 10 years since I've played PnP D&D)....

I was just curious if it was crucial on which Deity I picked my character. I mean I did pick one, but I don't know if it was the proper one for my character.

My character is a CE Male Rouge/Assassin Tiefling that is worshipping Cyric. I don't think that I am going to multiclass this character. I just want to try out a basic toon before I start experimenting on others.

Also, can anyone direct me to someplace that will show me which powers each of the Deities grant?

Thanks in advance,

Maljinn

Have you read our "Deity" section on the left menue?
Most of the common deities are described there fully.

As for your character i believe Cyric was a good choice. You can read all about Cyric in our section as well.

Can I ask a question that may seem stupid?
I've read all the section about deities and i still have a little doubt: which deities could be chosen for warlocks?

My favorite class usually is the sorcer (so Mystra all the way!) but i've decided to try MotB with a warlock - probably a CB or CN, i suck at being evil and love Okku too much to eat him - and now i'm curious about which god would be better...

I'll probably start with either Mystra herself or Selune (if i don't play an elf because in that case Corellon Larethian is the jack of all trade...), but i'd like to hear what you guys think.

Thanks!!

Mystra is always a good choice. so is selune. an alternative might be azuth (http://www.thieves-guild.net/forum/../index.php?pid=59).

in 4th edition D&D Sehanine Moonbow reveals herself as being cyric

No no no. Sehanine Moonbow revealed herself to be Selune, but Cyric has always been Cyric.

There's a big difference. Selune was one of the two gods present at creation (the other being her sister Shar). Cyric was a mortal man elevated to godhood during the Time of Troubles. And Cyric is imprisoned in his domain, the Supreme Throne, following the cosmology shattering crime of murdering Mystra, and being indirectly responsible for the deaths of Azuth, Sharas and Velsharoon.

Not a problem. I got interested in Faerun's many deities right from the beginning.

Ok now things are a little clearer (sorry cal1s but the whole Selune/Cyric didn't really sound good to me for the very reason Zousha said - that she and Shar were present at the creation) but I still have a question:

in the newest "gods killing" thing Cyric kills Mystra, right? And my question is (actually is not mine, i read it in another forum and intrigued me): Mystra: how could Cyric kill her with her power over the Weave? After all if she withhold the Weave from him he would lose his powers, so how could he kill her? or i've made a mistake somewhere?

thanks to you both! :)

Cyric wasn't acting alone. Shar aided him by dancing seductively to distract Azuth, while Cyric beat Mystra to death with Azuth's staff.

I think Mystra can't really withhold the Weave from anyone anymore, not after that fiasco that she and Kelemvor had shortly after they ascended. Mystra denied magic to evil people, and Kelemvor granted mercy to the Faithless. These things screwed up the world, and Cyric tried to exploit the opportunity to get them booted out of their positions, so they had to change their policies to restore the status quo, and so the Wall of the Faithless still exists, and the Weave is open to all.

Also, Cyric doesn't depend on the Weave, as far as I can tell. He's a god, not a wizard.

Finally, I suspect that Mystra let Cyric kill her. If she wanted to resist his attack, she probably could have punted him out of Dweomerheart with but an afterthought. Instead, she let herself be killed, and in the process freed Faerun from its dependence on the Weave.

Though that's merely speculation based around what many people agree was a boneheaded decision on Wizards of the Coast's part in the first place.
